In this role, you will lead and mentor a distributed software engineering team responsible for developing scalable products that support substance use disorder care delivery and clinical operations. You will collaborate closely with product, data, and operational stakeholders to ensure high-quality software delivery while driving engineering best practices and Agile execution. Accountabilities:
- Lead, mentor, and support a remote software engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, psychological safety, and continuous learning.
- Manage engineering delivery processes including sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, standups, and roadmap execution within Agile/Scrum frameworks.
- Partner closely with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize initiatives, and deliver scalable software solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of engineering commitments, proactively identifying and resolving blockers, risks, dependencies, and technical challenges.
- Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development for engineering team members, including collaboration with outsourced or offshore partners.
- Contribute to technical direction and architectural discussions while ensuring alignment with coding standards, security requirements, and healthcare compliance regulations such as HIPAA.
- Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, knowledge sharing, process improvements, and adoption of modern development practices and tools.
- Collaborate with clinical, operational, and data teams to support integrations, ETL pipelines, platform enhancements, and workflow optimization initiatives.
- Communicate delivery progress, technical decisions, and project risks clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including leadership teams and vendor partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited institution; advanced degree preferred.
- 3–5+ years of engineering management experience leading software development teams in Agile environments.
- 5–7 years of hands-on software engineering experience delivering scalable, maintainable, and high-quality applications.
- Strong experience managing remote and distributed teams while promoting engagement, accountability, and collaboration.
- Solid understanding of modern software development practices, full-stack web development technologies such as Ruby on Rails and React, cloud infrastructure platforms like AWS or Azure, APIs, and relational databases.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver complex software products on time.
- Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog grooming, and delivery tracking.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and executive stakeholders.
- Familiarity with healthcare technology environments, regulatory compliance standards such as HIPAA, and EMR/EHR integrations is highly desirable.
- Experience working with outsourced or nearshore/offshore engineering teams is considered a strong advantage.
- Exposure to data engineering concepts, ETL pipelines, or data infrastructure initiatives is a plus.
- Reliable internet connectivity and ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment.
- Ability to successfully complete background screening and other applicable pre-employment requirements.
