The System Administrator IV will provide leadership to the infrastructure team regarding standards and requirements for IT Infrastructure at Enviva.  This person will partner with the Enterprise Applications team to architect and build a foundation for IT to deliver technology and services for Enviva business units to consume. This Leader is responsible for architecting infrastructure and services, as well as vendor management of providers for Enviva.  S/he will provide direction to other infrastructure resources. Including the platforms upon which the applications used by the company will be based and how they are accessed.  Mentoring and training Infrastructure Architects, System Administrators and Engineers is also expected for this role.

The System Administrator IV also performs some Infrastructure Architecture roles and is always to remain knowledgeable of the most recent updates and developments, and act as an advisor to the company about IT infrastructure improvements.  Documenting and standardizing methods to deploy and operate such in order to take advantage of the benefits offered by the improvements made available through the changing technology landscape. This includes Infrastructure–as–a–Service (IAAS), Platform-as-a-Service (PAAS) and Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) modules and the concept is for a company to use the resources available to them over an optimized IT infrastructure. It also will include use of on-premise technology when business and risk dictates it.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of:

On-premise computing, cloud computing (configuration and operation), Operating Systems, VMWare, Active Directory and other Directory services, DNS, TCP/IP, Standard/Advanced routing protocols, networking equipment (WAPs, Switches, Routers, Firewalls), network cabling (copper and fiber), Microsoft Backoffice components, server-PC- and laptop hardware. The Architect will also know Cyber-Security methods/tools to monitor/protect these.

Responsibilities

  • Create a well-informed IT infrastructure strategy and manage the standards of such for Enviva.
  • Regularly evaluate infrastructure applications, hardware, and software.
  • Develop and organize infrastructure systems.
  • Work closely with IT security to monitor the company's privacy.
  • Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques including bulk application transfers into the cloud.
  • Identify the top infrastructure architecture solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the company.
  • Review of New Systems
    • The IT Infrastructure Architect plays an active role in the design and review process of new systems. These technicians develop and document proposed changes that need to be implemented or integrated across the working platforms of the IT infrastructure.
  • Integrate New Infrastructure
    • They formulate detailed plans to add new systems to the existing core infrastructure. It includes logistic plans for conducting physical integration of hardware. Infrastructure Architects provide technical direction and support throughout this process.
  • Assess Projects
    • They evaluate the new system that has been integrated into the infrastructure. This professional must keep track of the success of the project, identifying best practices for future implementation. Architects provide feedback to the enterprise and incorporate all gathered information into future integration plans.
    • The architect must identify the business requirements and will incorporate new hardware, operating systems, or connectivity solutions.
  • Alternative Solutions and Improvements
    • Utilizing their IT knowledge, an architect analyzes the system’s needs. They introduce alternative technologies to improve or enhance client information systems to support organizational goals. These requirements are then documented and communicated to IT management.

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of infrastructure technologies and current trends
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) to properly articulate complicated infrastructure reports to management and other IT partners
  • The ability and the knowledge to integrate services and tools to all areas to be used like networks and data processing
  • The ability and the knowledge to implement security information and event management to keep the company’s assets safe
  • Execute continuous improvement initiatives to improve service and efficiency through automation, self- service, and other evolving technologies

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or related experience
  • 15 or more years overall IT experience – 10 in on-premise; Infrastructure – 7 in cloud
  • ITIL Foundations Certification required – v3 preferred, or equivalent with COBIT/NIST
  • 10 or more years of experience in Architecture
  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley regulations and experience adhering to related audit requirements is required
  • 5 year working knowledge of information security frameworks and best practice operational procedures is required
  • Experience with IT cost optimization is required - outsourcing and offshoring is preferred
  • Experience with designing and implementing a comprehensive Disaster Recovery Plan for production systems is required
  • 5 or more years with core provider services from Microsoft Azure and O365 desired
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and demonstrates resilience and change agility to drive results in a highly regulated environment
  • Strong business acumen to understand how the Infrastructure, Enterprise Applications and Project
  • Ability to generate pragmatic, salient and simple solutions to complex problems
  • Strong customer focus and service orientation - Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language to non-technical staff and end users

Travel requirements

  • Availability to travel 15% - 30% domestically and internationally
