Job Description

Michigan Public Safety Communications System Manager

The successful candidate for this role will be required to be on site at the customers location in Dimondale, MI a minimum of 3 days per week for meetings with the customer as needed.

The System Manager will be proactive working with the customer’s service organization managing the Motorola resources available to sustain optimal uptime and use of the radio system. They will regularly review service information and quality reports generated by the system service database to determine an ongoing course of action. This individual also needs to be aware of all solution offerings in our portfolio, be capable of educating the customer in those offerings and have the foresight to engage sales and engineering to package the appropriate solution to meet the customer’s needs.

Responsibilities include optimization and support of complex communication systems and software applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband systems.

Job Duties:

  • Engage with the customer regularly as required to keep an open communication plan with the NCC and their management team.

  • Track all technical support cases until resolution. Escalate cases as necessary, working directly within the TS organization. This may also include cases regarding SUS, LXP, etc.

  • Address any perceived or actual product quality issue by opening a case and pursuing it to resolution. This may include facilitating conversations between MPSCS stakeholders and MSI subject matter experts.

  • Address any concern or issues the customer may bring to you and work to resolution.

  • Recognize maintenance issue trends and plan for/ propose upgrade corrective actions.

  • Attend any conference calls or meetings invited to in relation to any MPSCS proposal or integration project.

  • Actively participate in the Tier 1 DDP creation and review process.

  • Review and advise customer on all ASTRO MTNs. Assist in implementation if necessary.

  • Participate in applicable system ATPs.

  • Track and reconcile ASTRO and other system licenses as sold to MPSCS by MSI.

  • Actively participate in SUA discussions and in onsite system upgrade activities.

  • Create and track system matrix.

  • Act as liaison between customer and Motorola product groups to help the NCC and engineering teams to discuss existing and new features.

  • Coordinate TNCT for customer configurations (firewall rules, critical connect, etc).

  • Coordinate the NCC Project Tracker activities with BGA as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Understanding of two way radio communication products, systems and services

  • Must have hands on experience with Motorola P25 7.X systems, networking, RF systems

  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication, presentation skills, including both verbal and written using all the tools and applications provided by MSI

  • Able to solve complex problems and situations 

  • Must be a self motivated team player able to work effectively with general guidance toward objectives

  • Strong working knowledge of Motorola radio systems and their application by customers.

  • Possess block diagram familiarity of two-way radio technology

  • Understanding of Distributed Telecommunications systems

  • Working knowledge of Motorola’s Technology Roadmaps and their impact on customer’s future needs

  • General understanding of communications industry trends and their impact on customer’s future needs

Basic Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED with ​2+ Years of experience in one of the following: Electronics Technician, System Technologist, System Manager, or Field Service
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain background clearance as required by government customer
