Job Summary
The Systems Administrator will provide system administration and escalation support for the IT Operations group. Responsibilities will include designing, configuring, managing, capacity planning, and/or assisting clients with computer server systems.
Essential Functions
- Perform initial setup, software installation, testing, and security hardening of computer server systems, storage systems and network systems, consisting of Microsoft Hyper-V, EMC SAN technology, and Cisco switching
- Perform daily operations of managing server systems
- Maintain software, including testing, evaluation and installation of new versions or authorized modifications to custom and vendor-supplied operating systems and related software. Perform software patching and keep systems in compliance with applicable standards.
- Troubleshoot hardware/software problems and system failures. Work with hardware and software vendors as necessary to diagnose and correct problems.
- Determine and initiate appropriate and immediate actions needed to restore normal services with minimal down time. Investigate recurring and related operating system failures/inefficiencies by reviewing system logs, dumps and other information from clients or technical personnel.
- Identify trends and source of problem(s), and recommend/initiate corrective action.
- Monitor and evaluate operating efficiency, analyze hardware/software performance and tuning
- Design, code and install modifications to tuning parameters to optimize systems or software
- Monitor systems backup procedures and execute recovery operations when necessary
- Prepare documentation of systems and software for permanent records
- Provide leadership and training for IT / Technology Application staff
- Provide escalation support for IT/ Technology Application Staff
- Advise and train IT staff regarding server systems
- Bachelor's Degree In Information Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of coursework and experience Required
- 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area, including previous experience with system administration, network engineering, SAN technology and managing projects Required and
- Experience successfully trouble shooting hardware and desktop PC issues Required and
- Uses experience and initiative to plan and accomplish goals Required and
- Project management experience is also desired Preferred
- Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- This position is generally performed in a typical office environment that is usually quiet. Employee is expected to work collaboratively with team members, as well as able to work independently with limited supervision. Work will require significant computer and telephone work.
