Systems Design Engineer

Job Description

Raymond West is seeking a Systems Design Engineer to join our winning team! Systems Engineers at the Raymond companies are visionaries. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for design aspects of supply chain, distribution and warehousing systems focusing on conveyors, sortation and automated storage systems along with integration of racking, shelving, mezzanines, picking systems and supporting software.

Our Systems Engineers work closely with the Sales team and other Systems staff to oversee design and estimating along with engineering support of our project management team while maintaining Raymond's reputation, integrity and customer-first approach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Develop systems design concepts based on customer operational requirements and data.
• Development of 2D and 3D CAD drawings to support the sales process.
• When needed, support the project management team with engineering and vendor communications.
• Knowledge of conveyor control systems, WCS software and associated technology function to guide system design.
• Identify and develop quotes from the most suited vendors for various automated solutions based on equipment specifications, quality and costs.
• Work within a teamwork oriented and collaborative environment.
• Ensure quality standards maintained across all areas of responsibility.
• Demonstrate high attention to detail, solid organization and planning skills.
• An understanding of Industrial Engineering work methods and related materials handling equipment. The applicant must also have the ability to relate labor and space issues with the appropriate materials handling solution.
• Assist customers to define initiatives to improve quality and/or productivity and/or space savings.
• Occasionally attend conferences, meetings, vendor seminars and training to stay current in the material handling equipment technologies industry and evaluate whether or not new concepts are applicable to our customers.
• Follow departmental and company procedures.

Experience and Skills

• Five or more years of direct experience in warehouse layout and design including conveyor systems and material handlingequipment
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study or 10+ years industry experience in lieu of degree.

General:

• Proficient with AutoCAD and ability to learn 3D drawing programs such as AutoDesk Inventor.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite with ability to develop Excel reports to interpret customer data.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Excellent time-management and phone skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

• This is typically an office position, but occasionally some travel may be required
• Reasoning Ability Mathematical Skills
• Ability to apply general scientific and business mathematical techniques for engineering and cost estimating. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to drive an automobile and travel using public transportation including airlines.
• Occasional bending and stooping.
• While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear.
• The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• The associate is required to use hands to type, handle, or feel objects, tools and computer controls.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
