Systems Design Engineer, Launch Program

Job Summary

Kairos Power’s Launch Program is a 18-month training program that offers early career professionals hands-on learning opportunities. During the program, you will partner with a Launch mentor who will teach you various internal processes and methods through direct and practical projects. This program accelerates the learning process by offering increased exposure to various teams and projects enabling your potential to be a well-rounded engineer. The program intends to start at end of June 2023.

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Salt Systems Engineer with experience relevant to design, construction, operation, data acquisition, control and maintenance of engineering infrastructure and test equipment. In this role, you will contribute to development and deployment of the company’s salt systems hardware through iterations of test prototypes at various scales. The candidate must have knowledge of infrastructure, design, operation, and maintenance requirements for test equipment and proven record of successful work in collaboration with engineering teams. The ideal candidate takes pride in their hands-on work, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support development of electrical, thermal, and mechanical infrastructure for laboratory systems
• Interact with engineering and laboratory staff to support implementation of testing program
• Use CAD and analytical tools to support design decisions as part of cross-functional teams
• Contribute to manufacturing and assembly of test hardware in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams
• Contribute to software interfaces for experimental control and data acquisition
• Develop procedures for experiment operation, data collection, and reporting
• Monitor and maintain ongoing tests in the laboratory
• Practice safe chemical hygiene and hazardous waste handling
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
• Industry internships and/or research laboratory experience preferred
• Experience with 3D modeling and prototyping (SolidWorks preferred)
• Experience working in a laboratory or industrial environment on thermal/fluids testing is desirable, along with experience using associated laboratory equipment and hand tools
• Experience with thermal and fluids analysis and modeling is a plus
• Experience with a manufacturing environment is a plus
• Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Conditions

• Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
• Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders)
• Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
• Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
• Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
• Communicating with others to exchange information
• Use hand tools and power tools
• Repetitive assembly operations of manufacturing test fixtures and test setups in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams

Travel

• Some travel may be required (up to 10%)
