Job Description

Epitel empowers clinicians, patients, and caregivers who live with or care for neurological disorders. We're a venture-backed company funded by top medtech VCs, physicians, hospitals, and strategics. We employ proprietary EEG wearables and powerful AI to create a new platform for brain diagnostics. Our system cuts the time to diagnose brain disorders from hours to minutes and solves critical care access issues. We're building toward a continuous neurology care platform that will create novel biomarkers for neurological disorders. If you're interested in a high-impact role at a neurology pioneer, this is it!

Role Mission: Epitel is looking for an ambitious Systems Test Engineer to verify and validate capabilities of the existing and future products with exacting interface, performance and security requirements. You will apply a broad variety of engineering subject areas to integrate, maintain, and improve Epitel's current and future products. This individual will support system hardware and software test design and execution including calibration, characterization, and engineering testing in coordination with the various technical teams.

We're backed by NIH and highly specialized and respected health tech investors. If you want to build meaningful systems at a fast-growing company building life-saving products, this is the role for you. This role is based in Salt Lake City, UT.

Responsibilities:

Develop and drive the business verification and validation test plans and structure.

Develop and own test protocols, including creating protocols that trace to system and sub-system requirements and comply to applicable regulatory requirements.

Test the system and system interactions and provide a technically based analysis of all failures to provide actionable feedback to the hardware and software teams.

Support development of test methods and fixtures for system/subsystem integration (Including software), test, calibration, and transfer to manufacturing

Collaborate closely with software engineers to identify and migrate appropriate manual testing protocols to automated testing applications.

Support the identification and maintenance of system and sub-system requirements.

Collaborate closely with the Quality team to ensure verification and validation protocols align with quality and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

Problem solver with a strong background demonstrating strategic thinking and an ability to deliver on complex plans and strategies.

Ability to work in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and 21 CRF 820

3 - 5 years of developing and executing hardware and software system test protocols

Bachelor's or post-graduate degree in a STEM field

Detail oriented high energy self-starter that exercises sound judgment and delivers against both personal and company business goals and objectives.

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

Systems test experience - An in-depth working knowledge of system testing principles, ideally with Class II medical devices across both hardware and software

System test environment experience - Experienced defining, building, and operating an automated test environment (Python, Bamboo, Jenkins, etc.) that combines Software and Hardware testing.

Product Experience - Background with medical devices, wearable devices, Bluetooth /WiFi enabled devices, and cloud-based applications.

Jira/Confluence - Experienced and comfortable utilizing Jira/Confluence.

Start-up experience - Experience working at early-stage start-up or similar high-growth environment.

Excellent listener and communicator - we're open communicators with our partners and ourselves. You should have experience engaging in cross-functional brainstorming sessions and communicating technically complex messages clearly and concisely. You understand the importance of truly listening to your users, team, and other stakeholders.

Entrepreneurial - we're a small team. That requires everybody to take initiative and ownership for their role, manage multiple priorities, be resourceful amidst ambiguity, and flex between independent and collaborative work as necessary. You understand, appreciate, and enjoy the responsibility and accountability that comes with being assigned ownership of project deliverables and their success.

Efficient - speed and agility are some of our competitive advantages. We expect you to move fast with quality output.

Honest and trustworthy - we're nothing without trust. Clinicians, patients, and caregivers must be able to trust Epitel as an organization and you as an individual.

Enthusiasm - we love what we do and so do our partners. We want you to as well. You are passionate about building solutions, not just tools, and lean into delighting hard-to-please users.

Values:

Act with integrity and assume good intent - We're as proud of how we're building as we are of what we're building. We do the right thing, follow through, and look out for each other. If someone's stuck, we reach out and help them grind. We're a team.

Give a damn - We do what we do because we're committed to the cause - working for the next patient, the next caregiver. We listen to patients, their families, their doctors, and build to their needs. We take ownership of that responsibility, our work, and we commit to the mission.

Debate ideas, not personalities - Everything we've done has been for a reason, but precedent does not equal best practice. We constantly challenge our own ideas while respecting our team's contributions and competence.

Exceptional changemakers - We have to be exceptional - for patients, caregivers, and ourselves. We hold ourselves and each other to the highest standard. We step up to take ownership, leadership, and we follow through. We hire specialists who do the same.

Lean into the turn - Healthcare is in constant change. In turn, we constantly accept feedback and change with it. We're flexible, agile, creative, and we lean into it.

Perpetual growth - When you're creating the next frontier in diagnostics, nobody knows everything. We're always looking for how we and the company can learn and grow together.

We're serious about our work, not too serious about ourselves - We're committed to the mission, but your life at work is not your entire life. We have families, friends, pets, hobbies. We want you to bring your whole self to the team and experience your whole self outside of Epitel. That's why we have regular get togethers, generous vacation, and flexible schedules. The best thing to do with your life is enjoy it.

No cloak, no dagger - We're an open culture. Everybody has the full picture of what's happening within Epitel. No silos.

Benefits

  • Equity - every employee shares in Epitel's success.
  • Professional development allowance - we do better when you do better
  • Medical/dental coverage - we pay 100% of premiums
  • SimpleIRA contribution
  • Unlimited vacation - we also take typical US holidays + Pioneer Day (harkening to our Utah roots!)
  • Regular IRL meetings - remote work is convenient, but it's important to get to know one another in-person. We organize time for us to all to be physically in the same place (as long as we're all safe) every once in a while.
