The MITRE Naval Aviation Systems Department's (N233) mission is to advance Naval Aviation solutions with urgency ensuring warfighter dominance against current and future adversaries in defense of our nation. This is accomplished by delivering timely, effective, and sustainable capabilities to ensure the warfighter's mission success and safe return home.

Job Responsibilities:

The Naval Aviation Department at MITRE is seeking a systems engineer (SE) experienced in a broad range of systems engineering activities across the SE life cycle (e.g. Concept/CONOPs development, requirements engineering, systems architecture design, development, integration, testing and validation). They should be interested in working system of systems (SoS) problems including mission systems integration (radar systems, tactical communication, passive targeting, sensor fusion, and autonomy), obsolescence/tech insertion upgrades, and weapon system integration. They should be interested in learning digital engineering (DE) tools such as model-based systems engineering tools (e.g., Cameo) and mission modeling tools (e.g., AFSIM).

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines as part of Integrated Product Teams, and help define technical direction
  • Use system models to perform engineering analyses to support system and SoS integration efforts and provide actionable recommendations to USN/USMC sponsors
  • Assess current systems, and conduct independent trade studies of sensor, software, and processing components to shape the direction of the Navy's next generation of aviation systems
  • Engage across a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders to help them understand system design concepts, challenges, and proposed solutions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Scientific/Engineering Discipline and 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step
  • DOD Top Secret Clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI level security clearance
  • Good communication skills and ability to present highly technical material to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrated experience in performing analytical engineering work

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience creating MBSE/DE models (i.e. in Cameo)
  • 3 years engineering experience
  • Naval Aviation Domain knowledge/experience
  • Government/DOD experience with systems acquisition and development
  • DOD Top Secret clearance with SCI
