Systems Engineer - Technical Operations

The Team:

The Vestmark Managed Services Team is dedicated to hosting the VestmarkONE Platform and its supporting infrastructure in the data center and AWS. The team is responsible for the design, provisioning, monitoring, and operations of services, networks, and databases to support the VestmarkONE SaaS Platform. The team offers a great opportunity to experience a wide range of technologies and challenges as we strive to provide world class hosted financial services to our growing customer base. Scalability, security, and performance tuning are the fundamental challenges the team takes on every day.

The Role:

As a Systems Engineer on the Technical Operations Team, you will ensure that Vestmark delivers high-performance, reliable services while cultivating a strong Agile/DevOps mindset. You will participate as a contributor on system performance analysis, network troubleshooting, and system administration of next-generation technology stacks in the data center and in AWS. Your expertise will drive application and infrastructure optimizations for new and transitioning customers from on-premise to cloud. You will partner with other engineers and work within a team to ensure software and systems integrate to achieve reliability, scalability, and business objectives.  You have a passion for cloud-based platforms, automation, and experience in servicing production level systems, along with a collaborative approach to learning and solving complex problems.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in infrastructure lifecycle changes to VMware and AWS footprint, OS, SQL version, and 3rd party software. 
• Utilize and understand scripts written for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate and facilitate integration between enterprise systems.
• Participate in end-to-end infrastructure readiness, monitoring, and security.
• Support the migration of applications to cloud infrastructure.
• Assist in the analysis, tuning, and optimization to ensure adherence to business requirements.
• Collaborate on joint projects across multiple departments.
• Monitor trends of system issues and propose solutions to recurring problems.
• Troubleshoot issues across the stack (hardware, network, applications, database, storage) and assist other system engineers to resolve advanced system issues.
• Following, and creating process documentation and transitioning knowledge to others on learned processes.
• Participate in off-hours maintenance, and escalations via on-call rotation.

Minimum qualifications (Requirements):

• BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of work experience on production systems.
• 4+ years of experience in Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, Windows Clustering)
• 2+ years of experience on public cloud systems.
• 2+ years of experience with server virtualization using VMware
• 2+ years of scripting experience (e.g., PowerShell, Perl, etc.)
• 2+ years of experience with server monitoring and process automation tools.

Preferred qualifications (nice to have):

• Experience with Terraform
• Experience with MS SQL Server and SQL Performance Analysis
• Experience High Performance Storage Subsystems (e.g., 3PAR, Netapp, etc.)
• Experience with MS Windows Performance Monitoring and Analysis 
• Familiarity with network technologies including VLAN, HTTP(S), SSL/TLS, SFTP, Load-balancers
• Willingness to work an adjusted work schedule which could include Saturday in lieu of another weekday.
