Job Summary
The Systems Engineer will be part of the Platform Engineering Team, which is responsible for designing, building, deploying, and managing compute, storage, operating system, application, and cloud resources for all of Quantum Health. Work will focus on managing our VMware environment, including the underlying server hardware, and our storage infrastructure with a focus on Pure and Synology storage. They will also lead our backup and DR efforts from a technical perspective. The Systems Engineer will also have a significant role in Windows and Linux server management and new deployments. They will work closely with network, voice, database, and systems engineers, and should have a thorough understanding of IP networking, iSCSI protocol, VMware infrastructure, enterprise storage systems, and backup and replication solutions.

Essential Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities

Manage, configure, and upgrade a highly available VMware virtualization infrastructure including the underlying server hardware.

Design, implement, and manage backup and DR solutions and work with the Information Security team to regularly test DR processes.

Manage a storage infrastructure including Pure Storage SANs by provisioning resources, monitoring performance, and reporting on environment health.

Plan, build, and deploy new Windows Server 2022 virtual machines to migrate roles, applications, and services from previous environments.

Manage and maintain existing Windows Server and Linux environments.

Document processes and procedures in Confluence. Mentor and train other engineers throughout the team on the latest processes and procedures.

Act as an escalation point for issues reported to the Service Desk and participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation for production issues.

Plan, implement and support configuration changes and/or updates within the Quantum Health change control process, implementing service-impacting changes during off-hour maintenance windows.

Skills and Qualifications
- Industry certifications:
- CompTIA A+ or Network+ preferred
- Microsoft MCSA or Administrator certification or higher: Windows Server 2012+ preferred
- VMware VCP preferred
- AWS SysOps Administrator
- Ability to plan, design, implement and support computing and storage solutions
- Ability to follow a change management process
- Ability to solve difficult and complex problems
- Understand vendor support structures and protocols
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- A thorough understanding of IP networking and iSCSI protocols
- 5+ years implementing and managing server hardware
- 5+ years engineering Windows Server solutions
- 5+ years installing and administering VMware solutions such as vCenter and SRM
- 3+ years administering SAN infrastructure
- 3+ years managing server backup and replication solutions
- 2+ years creating and maintaining automation scripts, PowerShell or Python preferred
- 2+ years engineering Linux server solutions
- Working knowledge of Git, Terraform and Markdown Language preferred
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment while being self-motivated and independent
- Exhibit a positive attitude and the ability to be a technical mentor to others
- Experience working in an Agile environment preferred
- This candidate must be able to be productive in a fast-paced environment and work with minimal supervision.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for technology and be an excellent problem solver.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Information Systems preferred (or equivalent experience).
