Systems Engineer - Epic Infrastructure Systems - 6002

Montefiore's Epic Infrastructure Systems Team is seeking a Systems Engineeer.

Role description

Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) is a critical, hands-on role. This resource installs and administers Epic Web and Citrix Servers. They manage the configuration, deployment, proactive monitoring and maintenance of Epic Client Systems applications.

Job Responsibilities

• EPIC Windows infrastructure management on VMWare virtual machines.
• Applying platform and Epic upgrades and updates to production and non-production Web & Citrix server components
• Design, install and implement high availability solutions.
• Responsible for capacity planning and performance management of critical servers and applications
  • Manage the load configuration and make recommendations for purchase or upgrade of hardware as well as the tuning of software.
  • Design solutions to optimize system performance.
• Coordinate with other teams on the maintenance and integrity of system interfaces.
• Expand technical knowledge and stay abreast of vendor offerings.
• Create and maintain system documentation for specifications, designs, procedures, and logs. Document all processes, system changes/fixes, and issues.
• Provide customer support, 24x7, for system related issues. Work with other associates on escalated issues to identify problems and resolve them.
• Possess strong knowledge of the business or clinical functions and how they are applied to the system.
• Troubleshoot the system as an expert to identify any possible faults or potential issues.
• Design, build, and support directory services, desktop/mobile email, and/or network operating systems in an Internet protocol environment.
• Running on the servers.
  • Install and test new applications and upgrades.
  • Provide application performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Assist in application problem resolutions.
• Design, build and maintain system interfaces. Support real-time and batch interfaces with internal and external systems and vendors.
• Design, build, and support directory services, desktop/mobile email, and/or network operating systems in an Internet protocol environment.
• Monitoring network and Web server activity for security breaches using intrusion detection techniques
• Performing file system management
• Installing and managing the application deployment platforms that serve production, reporting, disaster recovery, training, and non-production needs
• Installing and maintaining administrative and monitoring tools necessary for high levels of availability and performance of your Epic system
• Understanding performance metrics, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues
• Assisting in the configuration and troubleshooting of integrated third-party software and peripherals
• Applying platform and Epic upgrades and updates to production and non-production Web server components
• Responding to emergency and after-hours issues
• Engaging in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resources
• Collaborating with your technical teams and Epic to ensure proactive support
• Writing and maintaining scripts to improve system management tasks
• Participating in your change control process for all planned application and technical activities
• Maintaining and testing processes related to business continuity
• Following vendor and Epic best practices for hardware and software configuration

Key competencies

• Expertise in the Microsoft Windows server administration
• Expertise in the Citrix XenServer virtualization platform
• Hyperspace/Hyperdrive management & deployment experience
• Experience with hardware or software load balancing solutions such as F5 Big-IP or Citrix Netscaler
• Working knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) administration
  • Network protocols and functionality including TCP/IP, Active Directory, Domain Name Services, FTP/SCP, and HTTP
