Job Description
Sierra Space-based in Broomfield, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL-designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations. The company is evolving rapidly, and the Safety & Reliability group is growing to support our Space Transportation, Space Destinations, and Space Applications business sectors! We have Systems Engineer positions at multiple experience levels available in the following disciplines:
- Structures
- Avionics Systems
- Electrical Power Systems (EPS)
- Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) Systems
- Propulsion Systems
- Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) Systems
- Mechanisms
- Crew Systems
- Payloads
- Mission and Ground Operations
- Production, Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T)
These roles will be located in either the Denver Metropolitan Area (Broomfield, CO or Centennial, CO) or Madison, WI.
Must-haves:
- Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field or related discipline and typically the following years of relevant experience:
- Systems Engineer I: 0-2 years
- Systems Engineer II: 2-6 years
- Systems Engineer III: 6 or more years
- Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous start-up environment
Preferred:
- Experience with, or knowledge of System Safety Engineering analysis and products, including but not limited to fault tree analysis, hazard analysis, computer-based control system (CBCS) analysis, channelization analysis, must work and must not work function analysis, etc.
- Experience with developing Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and reliability predictions
- Experience with presenting technical content and communicating effectively to external customers
- Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
- Practical knowledge of industry standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
- Ability to work with minimal information or direction to formulate proposed plans for resolving safety related design/requirement solutions
- Ability to administer baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures
- Experience with probabilistic risk assessments (PRA) and using fault tree analysis tools, e.g. CAFTA or SAPHIRE
- Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, e.g., JIRA
- Background in the Aerospace/Defense industries
- Experience with spaceflight or space systems
- Experience with design for human safety

- Systems Engineer I - 72,059 - 99,081
- Systems Engineer II - 82,867 - 113,943
- Systems Engineer III - 95,298 - 131,034
Broomfield:
- Systems Engineer I - 79,264 - 108,989
- Systems Engineer II - 91,154 - 125,337
- Systems Engineer III - 104,827 - 144,138
Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:
- Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
- Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
- Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.
Working Conditions:
- Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
- Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
- Rarely exposed to loud noises

$1,500
Estimated Starting Salary Range: $104,827.91 - $144,138.38
