Systems Engineer I / Systems Engineer II
What You'll Do:
  • Conceive and develop solutions to engineering problems through the application of professionally and industry-wide accepted engineering techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Perform systems engineering tasks throughout the lifecycle of programs or R&D projects.
  • Ensure that engineering work conforms to high technical and company standards and meets or exceeds all contract requirements.
  • Ensure the accuracy of designs and products. Compile and evaluate design and data to determine adequacy and completeness of the product and the engineering effectiveness of the results compared to requirements and specifications. May be responsible for tracking performance against costs, budgets, and schedules.
  • Provide analyses in the form of released documents for the same systems.
  • Manage system interfaces.
  • Support program gates such as the design and readiness reviews
  • Design, develop, test, and integrate test system software and hardware for a variety of applications including subsystem command and data handling, low level hardware control, automation, custom interfaces, and communication systems.
  • Provide support to a team of systems engineers to define, implement, and operate complex systems which include spacecraft, instruments and ground systems.
  • Advise program leadership on MBSE implementation options.
  • Lead small SE teams in the implementation and execution of MBSE practices.
  • Utilize MBSE for development of system architectures, concept of operations, and architecture to requirements traceability.
  • Provide expertise in electrical design, mechanical design, software architecture or manufacturing by helping establish best practices in system design.
  • Design, develop and modify applications, and or software systems, components, processes, and devices according to specifications.
  • Participate in requirements definition, analysis and decomposition, support system level architecture definition and software design.
  • Participate in department activities to improve methods and processes.
  • Work under formal development methodologies.
  • Develop and utilize technical trade studies to define resilient architectures. This includes but is not limited to assessing mission impact of external threats and associated mitigation strategies from cyber-attacks, reverse engineering, and tampering.
  • Understand customer approaches and sensitivities.
  • Mentor other engineers.
  • Prepare and give presentations to peers, management, and customers.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and recommend innovative solutions/applications and/or software design approaches required for meeting contract specifications for new or modified products and systems.
  • Compile and prepare necessary data and engineering items to support technical meetings and product delivery documentation requirements.
  • May organize, analyze, write, and present technical marketing and proposal information for program managers and customers.
  • Promote development of a strong team by participation in key aspects of the project.
  • Maintain and update required records and reports.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units, and the Company. Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You'll Need:
  • Engineer I - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
  • Engineer II - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • MBSE Tool experience preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate activities of a diverse team, predict and meet schedules, resolve disconnects.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to understand the customer's needs and provide clear communication of proposed solutions to both Ball management and the customer.
  • Experience executing system programs from concept development and program kick- off through post-delivery support.
  • Experience utilizing requirements database tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Cameo Requirements Modeler).

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR ENGINEER I: $88,500 - $109,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
  • HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR ENGINEER II: $108,000 - $133,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
