Position Summary

Caribou Thunder is seeking a skilled Systems Engineer III to join our team and provide critical support for a vital satellite communications mission. Your role will involve maintaining and sustaining an aging operational military satellite communications system in an operations environment.

Complete Description

As a Systems Engineer III at Caribou Thunder, you will play a vital role in maintaining and sustaining a vital satellite communications mission.

  • You will serve as a Satellite Subject Matter Expert (SME) Technical Advisor, specifically working with the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) Site Sustaining Engineering Team.
  • In this role, you will provide day-to-day technical support and expertise to the 4th Space Operations Squadron (4 SOPS) regarding the bus and payload aspects of the satellite.
  • Your responsibilities will include providing spacecraft bus and payload engineering support for current mission objectives.
  • You will conduct seasonal satellite performance assessments, analyze key data, and make recommendations to optimize operational effectiveness and longevity.
  • You will collaborate with the Air Force to provide operational recommendations that maximize mission effectiveness and minimize adverse impacts on the DSCS mission.
  • Additionally, you will serve as a technical advisor, providing engineering and operations support to the Air Force crews, engineers, and leadership, including on-console support for complex vehicle activities.
  • As the main point of contact for 4 SOPS, you will maintain the health and status of the DSCS constellation.
  • You will provide engineering-level support, including command plan development and review, on-console support during satellite commanding operations, and anomaly recovery support.
  • This role may require overtime, travel, and shift work as necessary to fulfill mission requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Subject matter expertise in satellite operations.
  • Previous experience with satellite BUS/payload subsystems.
  • Previous experience with satellite subsystems and S-band satellite command and control.
  • Experience in satellite operations and/or technical advisory roles.
  • Experience with the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner with limited direction.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team, including contractors, subcontractors, and Air Force personnel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work shift work and weekends as needed for anomaly resolution and special test events.
  • Availability for 24/7/365 recall to the site within 75 minutes.

Preferred Requirements

  • Advanced certifications or additional training in satellite operations.
  • Familiarity with other satellite communication systems.
  • Experience in satellite anomaly resolution.
  • Familiarity with software and tools specific to satellite operations.
  • Experience working in classified environments.
  • Understanding of space system acquisition processes.
