Systems Engineer III- Flight Ops Mission Systems (destinations)
Job Description
Sierra Space is seeking a candidate with a strong background in systems thinking and spaceflight mission operations to join the Mission Systems team within our Flight Operations organization. As a member of Mission Systems you will be responsible for ensuring Orbital Reef and internal programs ground segments are designed for ground operability, maintainability, and redundancy. You will also be responsible for the approaches, processes and products used to integrate with the Sierra Space mission control center and ground segment.
Ideal candidate will have experience with various phases of a program. Working knowledge of space ground segment, hardware and network architecture is highly desirable. Cloud based architecture experience also highly desirable. The candidate must also be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be willing to take the initiative to drive solutions with sometimes little direction.
Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop Mission System requirements including ground segment requirements
- Derive requirements relating to flight operations needs to support cross-team system development both internal to Sierra Space and with external partners
- Support ConOps development in conjunction with Systems Engineering team and external partners
- Support development of ground architecture
- Perform trade studies of vendors, and work jointly with vendors to formulate long term agreements
- Creating and presenting content for major design reviews
Must-haves:
- Bachelors of Science degree in an Engineering or related discipline and typically 7 (seven) or more years of relevant experience; higher education may be considered in lieu of experience; experience may be considered in lieu of higher education
- Technical writing and review skills, including Requirements, Interface Control Documents, and ConOps
- Cloud architecture experience, including designing and operating in
- Demonstrated experience briefing technical subjects to both technical and non-technical people and delivering key messages and insights from analysis products
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals and a willingness to learn new disciplines
- Ability to decompose a large complicated problem into manageable pieces, understand different points of view, and explain issues and solutions to others with diverse technical backgrounds
- An understanding of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, allocation, and verification
- Clear and concise communication skills
Preferred:
- Prior experience working on a human spaceflight program
- Prior experience with software tools development
- Prior experience with network design and hardware

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $104,827.91 - $144,138.38
