Systems Engineer IV - Systems Operations (Hybrid)

* This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days). **
JOB SCOPE
The Systems Engineer IV is a multi-tier operations engineering, design, development and solution deployment position. This role works with principal engineers to identify best practices and establish Charter standards for the video control and encryption infrastructure. The role works with principal engineers to set technical architecture and development direction across a set of internal business applications. This engineer is expected to provide technical leadership to cross functional development and operations teams, and deliver business critical projects. This role interacts with the Video Design and Engineering, Product, Programming, Video Support Center and other Video Operations Teams.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for engineering activities for operating, maintaining and enhancing the health of Video Operations applications, video control plane and encryption systems to include: Enterprise Controller, QAMs, Netcrypt/vDCM Bulk Encryptors, QPSK Modulator/Demodulator, and Transaction Encryption Device.
• Integrates communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations.
• Provide technical leadership and ensure success for testing new firmware, software, and hardware supporting Charter's video solutions.
• Develop and implement standard processes and method of procedures (MOPs) for upgrading and maintaining Video systems in conjunction with functional, performance, and business requirements provided by product and engineering teams
• Identify, evaluate, select, and deploy new test tools and automation frameworks.
• Identify and correct monitoring and alerting gaps to prevent outages
• Study future technology developments and formulate associated testing strategies.
• Collaborate on and create scripts with vendors and engineering to help identify, resolve or mitigate platform issues
• Collaborate on and create automation with vendors and engineering to improve implementation processes
• Ensure projects are accurately estimated and delivered according to schedule.
• Work with the field on the implementation of video network related projects.
• Maintain accurate record keeping of system architecture
• Provide timely and accurate information and status updates to functional leaders.
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to team members.
• Perform change work under Change Management guidelines
• Provide 24x7 triage and resolution support by way of on-call rotation
• Occasionally work nights and/or weekends
• Performs other duties as requested by manager.

BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, and / or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum eight (6) years of engineering work experience.
• Minimum five (4) years of video control plane and encryption technologies.
• Minimum five (4) years of project management experience.
• 3 year's experience with Unix and Linux operating systems.
• 3 year's experience in deployment troubleshooting, and providing administration

ADDITIONAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of ACLs, firewalls, and load balancing; both physical and virtual
• Basic knowledge and understanding of advanced networking capabilities to include IGMP, IP unicast, IP multicast, REST API, RPC, DNS, DHCP, TFTP, NTP and other critical, service delivery protocols
• Systems knowledge (Linux, Unix) and in-depth knowledge in areas of specialty for specific applications, and general knowledge of supporting or integrating applications creating platform ecosystems.
• Advanced knowledge of network architectures, configurations, TCP/IP and the OSI Model
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills, use of instrumentation tools. Able to effectively lead an outage bridge
• Advanced knowledge in using ticketing (Jira) and software tools to support the current operations and
• Advanced knowledge of visual design software such as Visio.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated ability in scripting and automation configuration techniques for the telecommunications industry.
• Demonstrated ability of server compute, network attached storage, virtualization, containers, and "as a service" concept in a public, private and hybrid implementations / environments.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead technical group discussions; such as, monitoring, engineering, designs, configurations, life cycle management, automation strategy, etc.
• Excels in self-managing time and priorities, performing duties in a very fast pace environment and capable of learning new technology quickly
• Ability to contribute to design sessions and specify solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality.
• Experience with network and element management systems, CISCO (DNCS) and/ or Arris (DAC) video delivery systems and multiple ecosystems adjacent to controllers, eg. SDV, VOD, Billing, Transport.
• Experience in improving Video Operations system performance metrics

The pay for this position has a salary range of
$88,200.00 to $156,600.00. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
