SUMMARYAgile Defense LLC provides all IT support, software development, Network and Systems Engineering, and Service Desk Technician support to the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). The mission of AFOSR is to identify opportunities for significant scientific advancements and breakthrough research around the world, and to bring together researchers and resources to advance revolutionary basic research for Air Force needs.

This position will provide hands-on leadership of a small team of system and network engineers to provide on-site IT system management, architecture, network operations, patch and STIG maintenance, telecommunications support to support AFOSR mission. The incumbent will work with the AFOSR Chief Information Officer to oversee system and network architecture, troubleshoot issues, identify and manage risks, and to provide leadership/guidance to the IT engineering team. Technologies to manage include VMWare, CISCO networking equipment and software, Cisco Call Manager, and Aruba CISP Wireless infrastructure. The incumbent will provide periodic status updates (written and oral), and work closely with contract management to ensure compliance to contract expectations/deliverables.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary duties are:
  • Be the POC for all network and system related projects, issues, and risks to the program leadership and client stakeholders.
  • Provide hands-on support and coordinate the efforts of the four-member engineering team to install, configure, STIG, troubleshoot, patch and maintain the physical servers, VMware vSphere/vCenter/ESXi infrastructure, Cisco networking infrastructure, phone and VTC systems for the AFOSR IT environment.
  • Monitor IT systems and infrastructure to ensure the highest level of IT systems and network availability and stability.
  • Provide written monthly and ad-hoc status updates on IT engineering projects and initiatives.
  • Advise the CITO and Program Manager on recommended practices, tools, equipment, and services to maintain and improve system and network performance and reliability.
  • Maintain documentation of maintenance for AFOSR computer systems and network infrastructure
  • Coordinate and manage the execution and verification of IT backup/recovery processes and tools.

  • Manage team of 4 system and network engineers

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Certifications

  • 01-M IAM II (CISSP Preferred) and IAT II
  • VMWare Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Preferred:
  • Microsoft Certified Professional Certificate 2019 or higher (Must obtain within 6 months of Hire)
  • Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) / CCT Routing and Switching Certification or equivalent
  • CompTIA Cloud+ or ISC2 Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)

Education, Background, and Years of Experience

  • 12+ Years of experience desired.
  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or other related field.
  • Experience with DoD and USAF information security policies and instructions.
  • Position requires the candidate to maintain an active passport. If the candidate does not have an active passport, they must obtain one within the first 3 months.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong experience and skill in VMware vSphere/vCenter/ESXi infrastructure maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working in Windows 10/11 environments.
  • Ability to provide hands-on support of system and network operations as needed.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to coordinate/manage and report status of IT system and network related projects

Preferred Skills

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Windows 10/11 support, Microsoft Windows Server 12/16/19
  • CISP Wireless configuration and support
  • Experience with Remedy
  • Be familiar with DoD Instructions (DODI) and Air Force Instructions (AFI) and Manuals (AFMAN)
  • Cisco Identity Services Engine training
  • RSA Authentication manager experience
  • Dell EMC SAN implementation and Administration experience
  • Cisco Unified Call Manager experience
  • ITIL 3/4 certification or training

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions

  • Possible off-hours work to support releases and outages. General office environment with a fast-pace ops tempo. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Strength Demands

  • Sedentary - 10 lbs. Maximum lifting, occasional lift/carry of small articles. Some occasional walking or standing may be required. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
