Systems Engineer (Linux)
Job Description
Eagle Seven is seeking a Systems Engineer to administer and support modifications to our global Linux infrastructure. This role will interact with our senior team members as we manage and design solutions for our trading systems. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, have a strong sense of ownership and be driven to provide creative technical solutions to business problems.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Maintain and continuously improve our Linux based environments
- Ensure critical issues are responded to quickly and as appropriate by triaging and diagnosing production systems in real-time
- Develop solutions to automate and improve operational reliability and efficiency
- Work closely with different teams on global projects to scale and optimize our infrastructure
- Administer and automate patch management changes through rigorous testing
- Maintain and implement structured repository management
- Provide guidance on existing hardware strategy including standards, life-cycle, capacity planning, and vendor management
- Stay current with the latest technology trends in the industry; propose, evaluate, and implement new solutions
- Collaborate and mentor our Operations Support team to troubleshoot problems
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of Linux administration or equivalent exposure
- Experience/exposure to tuning and architecture knowledge of low latency environments
- Hands on experience with configuration management (Salt, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.)
- Experience with Legacy BIOS/UEFI, PXE builds utilizing automation for host provisioning
- Understanding of File, Block and Object storage technologies and their applications
- Knowledgeable with virtual clusters hosting a wide array of different workloads
- Familiarity with databases; standalone and clusters, replication and point in time recovery
- Comprehension of the cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.), high availability, redundancy, SLAs and service tiers
- Conceptual understanding of network concepts such as DNS, DHCP, routing tables, and general TCP/IP troubleshooting
- Comfortable with scripting languages, preferably Python or BASH
- Demonstrated ability to leverage various technologies including open source software to identify and solve issues in a timely manner
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to develop and present ideas clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical team members
- Possess a high degree of flexibility and adaptability; comfortable in a dynamic working environment
- Proprietary trading industry experience preferred
