About the role:

Working as part of a diverse team within the Enterprise Technology Operations Org you will work on the design, planning, implementation, and support of our OnPrem and Cloud based compute infrastructure at conferences worldwide. Working hand in hand with the conferences team you will help us to ensure that every conference we produce is the single most important annual gathering for the roles we target and the communities we create around the globe whilst helping to empower our internal teams and drive innovation within our business unit and Gartner as a whole.

Build and support highly available and automated infrastructure to accelerate delivery of conferencing technologies and products to customers in a hybrid cloud design. As the role is aligned with our conferences business there will be around 15-20 worldwide conferences per year requiring travel.

Q2 and Q4 are usually the busiest with around 3-4 conferences per month (around 1 week in place per conference)

Q1 and Q3 are usually quieter with maybe 1 or 2 conferences per month

What you will do:

  • Support global on-prem and/or cloud compute infrastructure devices
  • Support global on-prem and/or cloud VMWare virtualization infrastructure
  • Work with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Ansible and Terraform to achieve automation and configuration management.
  • Work with our cloud Infrastructure team to deliver our cloud migration plan.
  • Provide infrastructure production support for virtualization and storage.
  • Create and review capacity reporting with recommendations for compute, storage and backups
  • Participate in strategic projects to support business initiatives as it relates to server and storage infrastructure.
  • Contribute to continual improvement by suggesting changes/efficiencies to standards and automation
  • Perform proof of concept reviews of new technologies related to server and storage hardware as well as complimentary software.
  • Create End Deployable windows images for use on Conference business laptops and equipment.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or 5 years' experience in server and storage infrastructure devices, scripting and automation.
  • 3 years' experience in any or all the following infrastructure technical disciplines: VMWare virtualization, Bare Metal Implementations, AWS.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Windows Operating System, Linux and MAC OS.
  • Experience in preparing and performing disaster recovery exercises.
  • Good experience with scripting languages; Ansible and/or Terraform a plus.
  • Solid understanding of security and performance best practices.
  • Experience with change control policies and submitting thorough records for approval
  • Experience with JIRA Sprints or KANBAN and Service Now a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with windows endpoint / end user deployments.
  • Candidates should have an understanding of basic network switching and routing as well as virtual switching technologies.
