**Hybrid or remote candidates will be considered.

Reporting to the Manager, Advanced Battery Systems you will be responsible for capturing Li-Ion Battery System requirements from Product Management, Customer Interfaces and other internal organizations, reconciling requirements between competing customers' demands, cascading the requirements to subsystems and components, validating that the established requirements meet customer needs (internal and external).

Responsibilities will include:

Requirements Analysis: Work with the Requirements Engineer to collect, analyze, and cascade the system requirements.

  • Evaluate requirements set against feasibility and optimization parameters
  • Refine performance and design constraint requirements

Functional Analysis: Define the system architecture, including sizing and cell selection based on core product portfolio.

  • Manage requirements cascading to engineering disciplines and subsystems
  • Allocate performance and other limiting requirements to all functional levels
  • Define system architecture with interfaces of components and engineering disciplines
  • Define engineering team subsystem and component ownership through system architecture

Design Synthesis: Define all sub-systems and components and assign ownership (including release responsibility) to functional disciplines.

  • Define alternate systems concepts
  • Select preferred system solution
  • Integrate design work from engineering disciplines
  • Bring forward optimized system design with comprehensive system perspective

Implement Functional Safety according to the Clarios Functional Safety Process.

  • Execute the detailed technical aspects of FS analysis, requirements, design and V&V
  • Execute safety analyses (HARA, Quantified Fault-Tree, FMEA, Common-mode analysis)
  • Define Safety Goals, Functional and Technical Safety Requirements and specifications

Ownership of the system level DFMEA and coordinating the connections with other sub-systems and component FMEAs. Coordinate the design efforts of functional engineering teams from multiple locations to ensure an optimal integrated system that meets overall requirements. Participate in the specification and design of all battery components - mechanical, electrical, software, and electronics. Manage trade-offs between components. Assist in the design for manufacturability (DFM) to ensure that the design of all components, sub-systems, and battery system optimizes the manufacturing process at the sub-assembly, battery system assembly, and vehicle level assembly. Release complete battery system to assembly plant. Develop relationships with suppliers to help generate component specifications and to perform make vs. buy analysis in conjunction with functional groups. Support APQP efforts to ensure the delivery of a quality finished product and process. Assist in the development and implementation of a control plan. Manage engineering documentation to ensure a sensible archive of information including engineering calculations, engineering drawings, intellectual property, DFMEAs, validation reports, meeting minutes, trip reports, and customer documents/communication. Provide technical direction to designers, engineers, suppliers, and support personnel.

Requirements:

  • BS, MS degree in related technical field - or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of professional engineering experience in related field
  • OE Automotive/Tier 1 experience with powertrain systems/components is highly desired
  • Experience with EV/HEV battery systems is desired
  • Experience with ISO 26262 automotive functional safety is desired
  • Solid communication and organizational skills
