Job Description

 About Epirus
Epirus is a high-growth technology company that develops solid-state, human-safe directed energy systems that enable unprecedented counter-electronics effects and power management solutions to enhance power efficiency in defense and commercial electronics. With a constant emphasis on innovation, we are redefining modern power systems to increase the velocity of change for our customers and bring tomorrow's capabilities to life, today.

Job objective:  Epirus designs and manufactures novel RF systems for a variety of platforms in a rapid development environment.  The Systems Engineer – RF role is a multidisciplinary role, with significant breadth (interacting with all engineering disciplines) and depth (from customer needs to unit-level specifications).  The Systems Engineer – RF role works particularly closely with the RF design team, facilitating Concept of Operations (CONOPS) definition, requirements definition and management at system, sub-system, and unit levels, integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) planning and execution, change management, interface definition, etc., for both Epirus-designed and vendor-purchased parts.  As a fast-moving technology company, Systems Engineering at Epirus focuses on supporting the other engineering teams and facilitating rapid development, rather than focusing on overly bureaucratic processes.

Duties:
  • Work with the RF Design team to define and capture RF System architecture for Epirus products
  • Develop models for key performance parameters that can be used to derive requirements and perform trade studies/impact analyses for RF subsystems
  • Define and iterate on product concept of operations (CONOPS)
  • Coordinate key requirements with subsystem design teams; tracking requirement flow-down, changes, and verification for RF subsystems
  • Facilitate multi-discipline coordination across teams, including interface documentation for RF subsystems and dependencies across subsystems
  • Quick-turn change impact analysis to facilitate agile hardware development
  • Facilitate IV&V planning and preparation, including resource planning for RF subsystems, developing Acceptance and Qualification Test procedures hand-in-hand with RF Designers, and helping prepare Special Test Equipment
  • Ensure verification completeness and consistency across the engineering teams
  • Develop system level test plans to exercise and measure RF functionality of the system
  • Troubleshoot system level RF issues/failures and provide recommended paths forward
Required Qualifications:
  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in RF Engineering
  • 3 - 10 years industry experience, preferably with experience spanning the entire product lifecycle (Concept to Delivery)
  • US Citizen or permanent resident (future security clearance may be required)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Solid-State Power Amplifier designs
  • Experience with GaN devices
  • Experience with Phased Arrays
  • Strong experience with VNAs, Spectrum Analyzers, and High-Speed Oscilloscopes
  • Experience with Python development or other similar object-oriented languages
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Focused, with perspective on what matters most, rapidly delivering customer value
  • Experience working with Systems Engineering tools such as for Requirements Management, Product Lifecycle Management, Model-based Systems Engineering, etc.

At Epirus, we work to create innovative power solutions to solve some of the world’s most complex problems. We are forward thinking in nature and committed to bringing tomorrow’s capabilities to life, today. To deliver on our mission, our team is comprised of individuals with deep expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering (including radio frequency and digital circuit design) as well as software design. We are always looking for top-tier problem solvers and changemakers to join our fast-growing team

As required by the Equal Pay Transparency Act, Epirus provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
For the state of California only, the range of starting pay for this role is:
