Systems Engineering Intern
Job Description
Allegro is looking for talented undergraduate and/or graduate Electrical Engineering students for exciting co-op opportunities in Systems/Applications Engineering. Allegro leads the industry in integrated circuit based magnetic sensing solutions and provides solutions to automotive, industrial, consumer, and computer products. Allegro's Systems/Applications Engineering team represents the boundary where cutting edge technologies meet leading edge end products.
As a Systems Engineering Intern, you will be part of a team of highly experienced Systems/Application Engineers with industry recognition in the field of magnetic based sensors. You will be exposed to the development of next generation state-of-the-art position, speed and angle sensors components as well as the leading edge technologies which are enabled by them. You will work in a state of the art engineering laboratory where you will gain hands on real life experience that will accelerate your knowledge and learning in nearly every aspect of electrical engineering. Based on your ability to grasp key aspects of the magnetic sensor industry; you will also have an opportunity to research and contribute to the publication of technical articles and papers. Regardless of whether or not you intend to pursue a career in integrated circuit based sensors; if you are intending to develop any discipline in analog electrical engineering, this opportunity will provide a lifelong benefit.
Responsibilities
A Systems Engineering Intern will do the following:
- Perform and document system testing as part of the development and release of new products
- Working with Systems/Application Engineers, co-develop circuitry to implement at a system level with new and existing products to meet industry challenges and specifications.
- Brainstorm new approaches to magnetic sensor integration challenges with other application engineers; develop, simulate, prototype your solution. Verify that it works as expected.
- Learn how to use equipment such as power supplies, loads, oscilloscopes, data loggers, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers. Put this knowledge to work in testing and troubleshooting.
- Learn how to use the latest industry tools to create schematics and board layouts for system designs.
- Develop and implement routines for automated characterization of new products and validation of new systems. Document and train engineers on how to use these routines.
- Develop skills for investigating, qualifying, and sourcing new components for use with Allegro products.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate for the Systems Engineering Intern would have the following qualifications:
- Working towards a BSEE
- Classwork in basic electronics, operation amplifiers, applied mathematics (such as calculus or differential equations) and circuit simulation is a must. Experience writing and running Matlab scripts is a strongly desired
- Classwork in analog microelectronic circuits, analog integrated circuits, and/or firmware and software coding is also a plus.
- Ability to communicate, write clear lab reports, and document work done is a must.
- An intense curiosity about how systems work and a desire to understand at both an intuitive and analytical level.
- Background in electronics as a hobby, or experience soldering and using lab equipment is a big plus.
