Systems: Enterprise Application Engineer
Job Description
The D. E. Shaw group seeks an enterprise application engineer to join its Application Engineering team. Application Engineering is responsible for developing and maintaining infrastructure applications, productivity tools and its surrounding infrastructure for the firm. They also collaborate with firmwide business units and other teams in our Systems group to improve and enhance technical product offerings that enable workplace success. What you’ll do day-to-day
As an application engineer, you’ll be responsible for owning the lifecycle integration, customization, and maintenance of applications used at the firm (e.g., vendor applications like Slack and Confluence, as well as internally developed products), which are vital to supporting global collaboration across our offices. You’ll work on assessing business requirements and developing automation and tooling in support of these applications. You’ll also help improve the firm’s mobile environment by driving new initiatives and improving our offerings, which is crucial at a time when more employees depend on mobile devices in their day-to-day job. The role offers the opportunity to develop productivity tools and liaise frequently with technical teams across the firm.
Who we’re looking for
- Applicants should have experience maintaining and engineering enterprise-level applications, along with a degree in computer science or another related technical discipline.
- Experience with configuring and maintaining enterprise MDM applications such as Microsoft Intune and document management systems such as Microsoft SharePoint in a medium- or large-scale environment is preferred.
- Experience developing applications or scripts is required, as is an ability to comfortably discuss technical concepts with developers. Experience with Python, Java, JavaScript, or PowerShell is also beneficial.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are critical, as is a client-service mindset, as you’ll be expected to build successful relationships within the department and across other business units at the firm.
- Prior management or mentorship experience is beneficial but is not required.
