Job Description

Our Mission at Scythe
Humanity has lost touch with nature - we’ve traded dirt and trees for asphalt, and we rely on loud, polluting, gas-powered machines to care for our limited natural spaces.

Scythe is forging a new future by building intelligent, all-electric machines that unlock a new superpower: the ability to care for the outdoors pollution-free at enormous scale. From today’s first steps in landscape maintenance to full-fledged re-terraforming in the future, Scythe is pioneering autonomous machinery that supports the ingenuity of humans, multiplying our power to nurture our planet.

At Scythe, you’ll work with a team of world-class experts in everything from computer vision to mechanical engineering, pushing the limits of possibility and growing by overcoming hurdles along the way.

The world needs what we’re building—come join us in making it a reality.
Integration Engineer at Scythe

Scythe Robotics is looking for a talented Integration Engineer to develop, debug and integrate Scythe's hardware, firmware and software systems. This highly multidisciplinary role requires broad knowledge, sharp intuition, and deep collaboration to handle a range of responsibilities from assessing our existing systems to driving improvements across design, process and documentation. As an Integration Engineer, you will work alongside and communicate frequently with a diverse set of other Scythers to understand and execute on our system and program-level integration needs.

As an Integration Engineer you will work with other engineers and operations experts from across the company to successfully design, build, scale and deploy an industry-leading zero-emissions autonomous mowing product. We expect you to be broadly experienced to be able to “see around corners”, to thrive in a fast-paced, self-managed engineering environment, and to be a collaborative, low-ego teammate who helps Scythe realize its mission.

What you’ll do at Scythe

  • Analyze systems designs, define new processes, lead bringup and develop validation techniques in order to ultimately build state-of-the-art Scythe products
  • Work closely and collaboratively with other teams across the program to define the scope, requirements, and potential impact of projects as new designs move from concept, through prototype and into production.
  • Build tooling (largely SW/scripting, but occasionally electromechanical fixtures) to improve integration / bringup, testing, validation and ultimately quality-control efforts
  • Improve the modularity, flexibility and visibility of our systems, either by driving requirements and design changes or implementing software yourself
  • Partner with the production and design teams to triage, debug and troubleshoot software and hardware issues, root cause and direct the repair of issues on an aggressive NPI/production schedule
  • Perform real-time troubleshooting on the product as it goes from the integration phase through final operations
  • Lead a broad range of software and other programming tasks to ensure that the systems integrations are functional and outcome of the integration has met the organizations needs
  • Participate in design meetings and reviews with an eye towards integration, bringup and interoperability
  • Do whatever is necessary to assure that the product meet customer's needs in the field.

What you know well

  • Using a diverse set of tools to integrate and implement hardware and software solutions across systems and organizations
  • Creating and interpreting organizational, software and hardware implementation schematics, diagrams and technical documents that explains upcoming/existing integrations to technical and non-technical individuals
  • Proficient programming in both scripting and systems languages, like Python and C++ (or Rust)
  • Comfort using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters and mechanical tools
  • Excellent communications skills for explaining complex implementation

What you’ve maybe done

  • Worked within an automation, robotics, automotive or aerospace environment or similar engineering field
  • System level design, integration, or testing of electro-mechanical systems and/or components that include large battery/power systems
  • Worked 4+ years within an operations or development environment
  • Built and refined full hardware+firmware+software projects on your own, either as a hobbyist, student or in professional capacity
  • Experience with monitoring, visualization and alerting tools such as Datadog, Grafana, or Kibana
  • BS or MS in a technical area or equivalent technical experience

Why Scythe?

  • Scythe is an early-stage but well-capitalized startup. Have a huge impact alongside an awesome team of experts shipping something the world has never before seen
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation
  • Fully-sponsored medical, vision, and dental insurance, including 75% funded dependent coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan (non-matching today)
  • Headquarters near beautiful Boulder, CO. Enjoy the bounties of nature and open spaces close to home with mountain biking, hiking, skiing and more.
  • Satellite offices in Austin, TX and Vero Beach, FL
  • Flexible paid time-off and remote work to let you do your best work where and when you want
  • Highly collaborative learning culture where personal freedom, growth, and responsibility are valued
  • An opportunity to have an incredible positive impact on the world
