Systems Reliability Engineer

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Senior Developer

Summary Description of Role: We are looking to add a second Systems Reliability Engineer who will sit between our end-users and developers to focus on the reliability and scalability of our systems so that our end-users have an improved daily experience while developers focus on developing new features.  To sit in this seat, you will need to the aptitude to learn the technical details of our tools and systems in addition to the many business processes that they support.
Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Monitoring and Support
  • Proactively monitor and review application performance
  • Handle on-call and emergency support
  • Triage escalated support tickets
• Release Management
  • Timely, reliable release to Dev/Test/Production environments
  • Ensure staged releases have been sufficiently validated
  • Create and execute release plans with post release validation steps and rollback plans
  • Coordinate releases with developers and end users
• System and Software Engineering
  • Write automation scripts and code to minimize support and monitoring overhead
  • Ensure software has proper logging, diagnostics and alerting
  • Configure production systems to improve scalability and reliability
• Documentation and Collaboration
  • Create and maintain operational runbooks
  • Document support issues and bugs
  • Document and review time spent on various activities to identify monitoring and support hotspots
  • Collaborate with other groups to unify our support and monitoring infrastructure
  • Document support and monitoring best practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science or other relevant field of study
• 0-2 Years of Experience
• Must be a U.S citizen or authorized to work in the U.S on a permanent basis
• Hours ~7am-4pm ET

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

• Interest in finance or background in fintech
• Ability to debug complex systems
• Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel

TECHNICAL ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of a higher-level programming language (e.g. C#, Python, Java)
• Knowledge of monitoring and alerting best practices. Understanding of tools like Splunk, Datadog and Nagios are a plus
• Knowledge of automation tools like Bamboo and Ansible
• Understanding of source control systems like Git
