Systems: Site Reliability Engineer

The D. E. Shaw group seeks an SRE to join its Systems group. This is a hands-on, technical role within a cross-platform team responsible for contributing to infrastructure engineering projects and maintaining and improving the firm's technology platforms. The environment includes an interdependent combination of Linux and Windows servers and applications, business applications, and high-performance data and storage networks. What you’ll do day-to-day

The engineer will work with the Infrastructure Engineering, Quant Systems, and SRE teams to improve the firm’s infrastructure. They’ll be involved in engineering project work and tier-2 operational support to increase the overall supportability and reliability of the firm’s enterprise technology environment. Additional responsibilities will include upgrading and/or re-designing existing infrastructure for improved performance and stability.

Who we’re looking for

• Applicants should have a degree in computer science (or another technical discipline) or comparable work experience.
• This individual must be comfortable supporting applications and services in both Linux and Windows environments. Proficient programming and scripting ability, along with a demonstrated understanding of Windows and/or Linux OS and networking fundamentals, are both required.
• Candidates should have excellent troubleshooting capabilities and extensive experience in automation. They should also have experience with diagnostic and tracing tools, declarative configuration management, and metrics and monitoring platforms at scale.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code frameworks, metrics/monitoring platforms, enterprise storage, and market data networks is a plus, but is not required.
