Tank Engineer

The Mechanical Operations Support Engineer for Storage Tanks, as an essential partner plays a key role in supporting the refinery's mission to operate safely, optimally, reliably, predictably, and without incident. This involves taking a lead role in understanding and evaluating plant performance, working closely with Operations and Maintenance to establish priorities for the work and following through with proactive design and execution of mechanical projects and improvements.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

• Continuously works to improve personal and process safety performance at the refinery and understands that all injuries, environmental issues, or business losses are preventable through proper planning and risk recognition.
• Provide Engineering support to the refinery's Tank Maintenance program.
• Provide in depth reviews of tank calculations and drawings.
• Interprets and applies API 653/650 and API 2000 to refinery tanks.
• Interprets and applies ASME BPVC Section VIII for LPG spheres and horizontal pressures vessels.
• Reviews and verifies inspection reports.
• Provides technical guidance to Fixed Equipment & QC/QA inspector.
• Field verifies compliance with drawings and calculations.
• Actively participates in the planning and execution of tank outages, both planned and unplanned.
• Answers technical inquiries, makes technical recommendations, provides tank system troubleshooting, improves Engineering tools for tank analysis.
• Managing customer work utilizing DEW-IT job log tool.
• Technical mentoring of new Mechanical Operations Support Engineers.
• Develops relationships with customers and peer support groups inside the refinery to better understand their needs and meet expectations. These include, but are not limited to: Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Process Engineering, Small/Major Capital Projects, and others within the Designs Engineering organization.
• Shows leadership by representing the Designs Engineering organization to the rest of the refinery with integrity, trust, diversity, ingenuity, meeting commitments, fostering teamwork, and character.
• Proactively communicates information and opportunities, both written and orally, to all levels of the organization.
• Provides plant engineering support for the routine daily operation of all tanks within the refinery.
• Develops and manages engineering work orders with safety and reliability as the overshadowing requirements for the person completing the work in the field and the end user.
• Scopes/troubleshoots mechanical problems and issues, develops alternatives, and proposes and implements solutions for long term safety and reliability.
• Carries out various studies to improve plant safety, reliability, and economics.
