Tax Accountant

Bottomline Technologies is seeking a talented Tax Accountant to join our dynamic corporate accounting team in our Portsmouth, NH Office. This team supports our North American and Corporate accounting operations. We are looking for a hands-on, highly motivated, and driven individual that has the ability to work independently, providing accounting proficiency. The candidate will fit well in an environment that rewards bright, self-starting, energetic, and focused individuals seeking increasing responsibility and challenge. 

This person will be able to work remotely with occasional/infrequent visits to our Portsmouth, NH office to work. Person should be within driving distance of Portsmouth, NH 

How you’ll contribute:

• Reconciliation of North American sales tax activity: remit monthly data to Avalara and review monthly returns prepared by Avalara; prepare amended returns as required; notice resolution.
• Update and maintain the Sales/Use Tax Exemption Certificates: enter new exemptions in the CertCapture system; track expired/missing certificates; prepare and send requests for updated certificates from customers.
• Respond to customer sales tax issues raised by the A/R group.
• Perform research relating to specific tax positions and issues.
• Keep current on sales tax law changes, trends, and developments.
• Work with A/P in gathering invoices for GST/VAT Refunds on US T&Es
• Prepare miscellaneous state and federal filings: Annual Reports, Business License renewals, Personal Property Tax reports, Unclaimed Property returns, OH CAT, Business and Occupancy Returns, Foreign Bank Accounts
• Assist the tax department with projects as needed.

What will make you successful:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or previous accounting experience in a corporate environment.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, including use of pivot tables, data functions, and advanced formulas (SUMIF, VLOOKUP, CONCATENATE, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of MS Word
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Self-directed and highly motivated to succeed
• Previous sales tax experience – Nice to Have
• Knowledge of Avalara sales tax software – Nice to Have
