What you will do:

As a member of the Accounting team reporting to our Accounting Manager - Tax, you will play a key role in helping the team with day-to-day tax operations functions such as OCC’s income tax requirements, Federal, State, and Local tax compliance, sales and used tax and other ad-hoc projects, to support OCC’s business needs. This position will also interact with key finance, accounting, and other business partners across OCC. Requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, multitask and prioritize responsibilities and demonstrate strong analytical skills with the ability to make smart business decisions using a good sense of judgement.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.

  • Assist in the preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provision workpapers, including calculations, tax account roll forwards, and analysis of uncertain tax positions

  • Identify, assess, and implement process improvements and documentation in tax operations to optimize income tax accounting and compliance processes

  • Maintain policies and procedures applicable to accounting and tax processes.

  • Maintain internal control processes and standards and ensure effectiveness and compliance with US GAAP.

  • Prepare and review Federal, State, and local income tax returns

  • Own tax controls and assist with quarterly assessment and documentation

  • Complete monthly/quarterly close activities, including ASC 450 tax accruals

  • Assist with tax research and documentation of tax accounting and other tax technical matters

  • Assist management and oversight of daily operations of the accounting department, including, but not limited to accounts payable, leases, fixed assets, financial reporting, and taxes.

  • Work with Finance to monitor business forecasts and related results to analyze and maintain effective tax rate and forecasts

  • Work with internal and external auditors and regulatory examiners.

  • Assist with issuance of annual GAAP financial statement audit report.

  • Assist in preparation of annual financial statements and tax related footnotes.

  • Spearhead ad-hoc projects

  • 3 years of previous accounting/tax experience

  • Critical thinker, alert to conditions that may indicate possible misstatement due to fraud or error

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and delegate duties

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Understands the importance of team building, both inside and outside the Accounting group

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • [Preferred] Prior SEC/regulatory work environment experience and knowledge of Accounting software

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office - Excel

  • [Preferred] Experience in Oracle accounting software platform

Education and/or Experience:

  •  Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting/Tax

  •  [Preferred] 3+ years of financial services experience

  • Prior experience with tax issues and preparing supporting documentation for tax preparer

  • [Preferred] Prior experience in SEC regulated Financial Services company

Certificates or Licenses:

  • [Preferred] Certified Public Accountant
