Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Tax and Accounting Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and filing tax returns for individuals and businesses, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations. This role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in financial software, and a solid understanding of financial concepts. The Tax and Accounting Clerk will work closely with clients to gather necessary documentation and provide expert advice on tax-related matters. You will also be establishing and building relationships with future and current clients. Responsibilities • Gather client documentation to prepare and file business or personal tax returns • Build year-round client relationships • Process franchise tax reports, sales tax reports and assist with payroll. • Perform a variety of clerical duties including data entry, answering telephones, and taking messages. • Interact with clients, answer client inquiries about services and provide solutions • Research and compile data for special projects and reports. • Review previously prepared tax returns • Provide tax audit support and tax planning year round • Type and proofread reports and letters; prepare mail and ship • Order and maintain inventory of office supplies. • Coordinate, organize, and maintain general office records. • Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required. • Clean and maintain the office premises to ensure a tidy work environment Job Requirements: • High school diploma or GED equivalent; some college preferred. • Bilingual in Spanish and English. • Minimum of 2 seasons of personal tax preparation experience, with a minimum of 30 tax returns per tax year in a tax practice strongly preferred • 1 year experience in accounting clerical work. • Bookkeeping experience with books to tax preparation is strongly preferred. • Critical thinking, problem solving, research skills, and determination. • 2+ years customer service experience • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with clients. • Some experience with payroll preferred • Knowledge of Excel and Outlook required • Knowledge of tax preparation software preferred • QuickBooks software knowledge preferred • Knowledge of sales tax and franchise tax reports • Ability to perform 10 key typing efficiently for data entry tasks. Knowledge and Abilities: • Strong personal and business tax preparation experience and knowledge of tax laws as evidenced by 2 or more years of recent experience preparing federal and state business tax returns. • Knowledge of modern office procedures, business letter writing, report preparation and proper telephone etiquette. • Detail-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills. • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. • Knowledge of basic mathematical principles and methods. • Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping and filing. • Skilled in utilizing a computer and associated software programs. • Ability to interpret complex tax forms and letters • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment. • Ability to communicate clearly and effective. • Ability to perform routine clerical work. • Ability to compile, organize, maintain accurate and complete records, and files. • Ability to learn data retrieval and input methods. • Ability to lift 20-30lbs. • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
