Tax Associate

What do we need

We are seeking a detail oriented Tax Associate who can navigate the complex landscape of taxation with finesse and precision. You will work with a team to ensure that our company is in compliance with all relevant local, state, federal, and international tax laws.  You will be involved with creating a process to gather and manage information requests and determine accuracy and adjustments to be incorporated. In addition, you will assist with the creation of internal taxation policies.

In this role you will get to:

• Collaborate with business teams to gather and collate information needed for quarterly estimates and annual tax returns
• Review of tax returns and manage filing of returns including payment records and filing confirmations 
• Transfer pricing calculations and work with Accounting to understand inter-company transactions 
• Maintain and organize sales tax data used for monthly sales tax returns and develop a system for collecting and maintaining sales tax exemption certificates
• Assist with tax agency communications as necessary, including responding to notices and requesting additional information to resolve issues / discrepancies
• Update tax files, organization charts, inter-company agreements, and other as needed
• Monitor tax mail and develop system for addressing and tracking urgent tax notices
• Observe tax legislation for potential impact to the company’s operations and structure
• Assist with budget and billing process

We are looking for people who have 4+ years of experience working in a tax department, ideally within a software company.  You will have a strong interest in furthering their tax technical knowledge base, bringing a curiosity for learning the tax function with experience researching state, federal, and international tax issues.  You will also have a strong desire to delve into accounting records to understand gaps and or adjustments needed for tax purposes. 

The key skills we are looking for are:

• Working knowledge of Sales and Use Tax matters: filing monthly SUT returns, collecting exemption certificates, reviewing / researching sales tax rules and nexus analysis
• Local and indirect tax matters, including organizing online tax accounts and corresponding with various tax agencies as required online, via email, post or by phone
• International tax matters and concepts will be given added consideration
