Tax Contractor

As a Tax Contractor you will provide part-time tax assistance for a growing organization. This position would require a hybrid work schedule out of our Chicago office.
Responsibilities

• Assist in compliance for all State & Local taxes, including but not limited to, US sales tax, use tax, lease tax, personal property tax, business tax, other local jurisdiction taxes, as the company grows
  • Process tax exemption certificates for exempt clients
  • Reconcile sales tax account - including working with AR team to ensure accuracy of invoicing of taxes
  • Review changes to sales product taxability, understand product sold by Origami to ensure correct tax codes are used by Origami in Avalara
  • Review items/products in ERP (Intacct) to ensure accuracy of tax codes used to invoice
  • Determine when Origami needs to file in new jurisdictions and get set up new jurisdictions, as needed, including registration.
  • Assist in client communications regarding sales tax questions
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly returns and payments
• Assist in filing and compliance for all franchise/pass through/composite taxes with tax advisors including making payments and mailing returns, determining nexus changes, and registering in new jurisdictions (monthly/quarterly/annual)
• Monitor and resolve various tax notices (including email & paper mail) from taxing authorities and complete forms/work with tax advisors
  • Review refund checks with tax advisors to ensure accuracy
• Assist in International tax compliance, including but not limited to UK VAT and Canadian GST/HST/income taxes
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly returns and payments
• Maintain a tax calendar to ensure all taxes are listed and proactively filed/closed out as needed.
• Enforce tax compliance to reduce future tax exposure.
• Identify tax savings and recommend tax strategies that maximize that goal

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Accounting
• 3+ years as a Tax Accountant, Tax Analyst or Tax Preparer
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Deadline driven and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high quality and a focus on detail
• Computer literacy (MS Excel in particular)
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Sign a non disclosure agreement
• Report to office on certain days to handle confidential information
