This position is responsible for all aspects of federal, state and local tax filing requirements and payments for income taxes, sales and use taxes, excise taxes, property taxes, and other regulatory and compliance requirements. This position reports directly to the Controller within GILLIG’s Finance Department and is responsible for the oversight, review and approval of accounting staff performing indirect tax and other regulatory filings.Â
- Preparation of federal and state income tax workpapers and supporting documentation, working closely with the Company’s tax firm on accumulating data and tax return preparation, performing detailed/primary reviews of all tax returns and processing tax payments, quarterly estimates and extensions
- Conducting tax research, tax planning and other federal and state tax projects.
- Communicate and work closely with company ownership and their advisors on income tax returns and strategies as the company is structured as an LLC and treated as a partnership for tax purposes
- Oversee and manage in a dotted-line relationship accounting staff responsible over for all aspects of state and local sales and use taxes, franchise taxes, property taxes, excise taxes, business licenses, dealership registrations, etc.
- Manage all federal and state audits and inquiries
- Formulate, recommend and implement tax strategies
- Responsible for all other regulatory requirements inclusive of ERISA and Department of Labor 5500 filings
- Reconcile all tax balance sheet accounts
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries and other supporting schedules for inclusion in the Company’s monthly financial reporting package
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting processes
- Develop tax accountant knowledge and skill set for career progression
- Support CFO and Controller with accounting and internal control projects, engagements and analysis as assigned
- Minimum of 5 years of income tax experience
- BBA/BA or higher Degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA preferred
- Partnership and state income tax experience, preferred
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Strong analytical and technical skills – must be able to model business requirements and prepare "what-if" analyses
- Ability to act quickly in situations of ambiguous direction or change of direction
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ownership skills demonstrating initiative and drive
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Teamwork skill set and ability to build impactful working relationships with both internal and external customers and business partners
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Long periods of sitting, walking, standing
- No travel required
- Onsite role with a work-from-home dayÂ
- Standard start time: 7:00AM (negotiable)
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment.
