Job Summary
We are seeking a Tax Planning & Analysis Director to support the thought leadership of CNA's tax function in planning for uncertainty and supporting strategic objectives. This new leadership role shall partner with the VP of Tax Analytics and the VP of Tax Planning to prepare for the increased demands emanating from complex and uncertain tax legislation, tax transparency, and business strategies and proposals. Additionally, this role will design and present tax planning models, review and implement tax planning strategies, influence and shape the tax function's future operational business model, and lead special projects. Further, this role will partner with other Tax leaders on technology and automation initiatives and champion transformation efforts across the Division.
This individual contributor role is a unique opportunity to partner with senior tax leadership on strategy and execution and will have visibility and exposure to other leaders and teams. This role will also have the opportunity to indirectly coach Divisional staff.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Partner with senior tax leadership to evaluate the impacts of proposed tax legislation changes in the U.S. and the foreign jurisdictions CNA does business.
2. Partner with senior tax leadership to assess and determine the transparency of tax reporting.
3. Research and model the impacts of tax planning initiatives and present to senior tax leadership.
4. Collaborate with finance, treasury, legal and other stakeholders to ensure proper execution of tax planning initiatives.
5. Partner with tax leadership and peers to implement tax planning initiatives and ensure operational achievement.
6. Support M&A transactions across the business.
7. Lead change management efforts with information technology and tax leaders on the implementation of large tax software application projects.
8. Champion transformation efforts across the Tax Division to drive operational improvements and meet organizational objectives.
9. Deliver professional and timely services to internal and external customers.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. Dedicated corporate tax professional with in-depth technical knowledge of U.S. tax laws and regulations, and income tax accounting guidance.
2. Considerable experience with tax modeling and scenario planning.
3. Ability to be resilient working in a dynamic, fast paced and informal internal environment while dealing with an often ambiguous and fluid external tax world.
4. Excellent analytical, technical and problem-solving skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to develop innovative and creative solutions for complex issues.
6. Ability to extract, analyze and review data and make appropriate recommendations.
7. Strong executive leadership presence and effective presentation and storytelling skills.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to make the complex simple.
9. Fascination with technology and automation and courage to upskill and explore.
10. Detail oriented and self-motivated individual who can work independently.
11. Strong interpersonal skills including ability to work effectively within a team environment and
partner well with leaders at all levels of the organization.
12. Ability to drive change management and influence tax, finance and business professionals.
Education and Experience
1. Minimum of ten years of public accounting and industry corporate tax experience. Insurance tax experience is highly preferred.
2. Minimum of five years of technology exposure, including M365, ETL and visualization tools.
Corptax and Workday software experience are a plus.
3. Bachelor's degree in accounting. Master of Science in Taxation degree is a plus.
4. Certified Public Accountant designation.
