Taxonomist (Contract)

As Curated continues to grow, we’re seeking an experienced Taxonomist to join our Buyer Experience  team

At Curated, the Buyer Experience team owns the entire shopping journey from the homepage all the way through to checkout.  We work on a wide variety of projects ranging from traditional e-commerce fundamentals like navigation, search, and our homepage to projects that are unique to Curated like expert interactions, curations, and our content feed. On our team, we work closely with a number of other Product groups and the Category Management and Merchandising teams.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for defining our category taxonomy, attributes/attribute values, and taxonomy tools. By doing so, your work will then help us improve navigation, search, filters, and many other parts of the user experience that rely on structured data. 

What You’ll Do:

• Collaborate with our Category Management and Merchandising teams to design and build our core product taxonomy 
• Develop and maintain our category taxonomy and related processes 
• Define attributes for our largest categories 
• Make tooling decisions to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our core taxonomy 
• Improve the product navigation experience and define the core attributes that belong on product pages for various product types 

About You:

• 5+ years experience in developing taxonomies and ontologies (ideally to support e-commerce use cases)
• Experience with implementing taxonomies to support site navigation, search systems, merchandising, and recommendations
• Demonstrated understanding of taxonomy principles and standards, including controlled vocabularies, classification, data mapping, ontologies, and taxonomies
• Great verbal communication skills with the ability to align multiple stakeholders on changes to structured data needs

Nice to Have: 

• Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Management
• Willingness to deep dive into data (e.g. Looker) to understand taxonomy performance and make improvements
