About this Training Program

DS4A / Data Engineering is a FREE, 16-week training program for talented individuals from underrepresented communities (including Black, Latinx, Veterans, LGBTQ+, among others). The program trains Fellows to become certified Data Engineers and then connects them with job opportunities.

We focus on teaching industry-standard tools so that Fellows can create data pipelines and effectively leverage Big Data. Over five months, the program will cover advanced topics including APIs, SQL, relational database design, cloud computing and architecture, distributed computing and algorithms, and much more.

About this Role

Teaching Assistants ("TAs") play a critical role in teaching Fellows in Correlation One’s virtual training programs. TAs work with Correlation One's instructors, operations team, & curriculum team to drive exceptional learning outcomes for the Fellows who participate in our programs ("Fellows" is how we refer to the students in our programs).

The ideal candidate will be an excellent educator with superior communication skills and a good sense on how to provide a positive Fellow experience. This person is a quick learner, diligent with their work, and empathetic. Your driving motivation is helping Fellows learn the material taught during the program so that they can use their new knowledge & skills in the real world. 

Job Responsibilities:

• Attend all live classes (16 weeks on Saturdays; including break weeks for holidays) from March 25th - July 29th
• Answer live questions from Students via Slack during lectures.
• Advise Project Teams on their project work, steering them to deliver highly impactful outcomes
• Lead workshop and extended case review sessions.
• Collaborate with your TA partner to instruct your cohort of 50 Students assigned to you in the program. Students are sorted into Project Teams of 5-7 people, which work together to complete a capstone project during the program
• The role is fully remote. Our class is taught in a “Live Online” format primarily via Zoom and Slack.
• Optional: Correlation One usually offers additional earning opportunities for ad-hoc projects both related to and unrelated to the program TAs participate in. These opportunities can include curriculum development, teaching lectures, and assisting with program admissions
  

Skills We Consider Critical to the Role:

• An excellent educator with a passion for teaching and helping others.
• Experience in Data Engineering and familiarity with the related topics taught in the program. This includes a degree in a related field and / or industry experience in a related role such as:
• noSQL
• Python
• AWS Redshift
• datawarehousing
• Outstanding people management skills and communication

This position is accessible for those with other professional responsibilities, including full-time jobs, provided you can commit to regular synchronous support for live class sessions.  We require a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice for any planned absences from live sessions or periods when Trainers are not available (i.e., scheduled vacations, other work commitments, etc.); we will communicate more specific expectations for this during the onboarding process.
