Commerce Bank's Enterprise Analytics & Business Intelligence Team

The Enterprise Analytics & Business Intelligence team drives strategy through analytics to support the needs of Commerce Bank's Consumer, Commercial, Wealth, and Operational business lines. The team of Data Analysts and Data Scientists is responsible for a wide variety of data-related tasks, ranging from managing the movement and storage of data to descriptive reporting and predictive modeling. The Enterprise Analytics & Business Intelligence team utilizes a variety of technologies, tools, and skillsets to develop actionable insights for business partners throughout Commerce Bank.

Enterprise Analytics Data Analyst Role

The Enterprise Analytics Data Analyst role performs report development and data analysis that help business lines obtain information needed to make strategic & tactical decisions to grow revenue and/or reduce expense. The Data Analyst Lead is also responsible for the management, workload prioritization, and coaching of multiple employees that directly report to the position.

Data Analysts identify opportunities for process automation and enhancements to existing reporting to keep pace with their business clients' changing needs and improve overall efficiency. The position understands the meaning behind the data in the data sources and the underlying data models to accurately leverage the data for business decision making. Data Analysts are responsible for the development of dashboard reporting, data visualization reports, semantic layer creation, and file production process management.

Enterprise Analytics Data Analysts also collaborate closely with business users at all levels of management to define business requirements as input into creating data marts and efficient data-driven processes. The position partners with IT personnel to test and implement enhancements to databases, as well as evaluate the impact of changes to current reporting environments. Data Analysts ensure data quality by reviewing key data warehouse data loads, and partners with IT Data Analyst to maintain process documentation as well as key business rules such as mapping and transformations.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee department workflow and effectively communicate decisions, priorities and relevant information to team members
  • Provide guidance to employees on departmental projects/issues, coach and develop training plans, lead development conversations and answer day-to-day questions for team members
  • Independently develop complex, time-sensitive data and analysis solutions in Microsoft Power BI, Python, and SAP Business Objects
  • Create database queries using SQL on Teradata and other relational databases
  • Model semantic layers for business intelligence tools between data sources and reporting levels
  • Identify opportunities to increase efficiency through process automation
  • Collaborate with IT partners to facilitate the secure movement and accurate storage of data
  • Perform requirements gathering with internal business line partners to understand client's needs
  • Perform analysis of key business line and enterprise metrics for management
  • Create process documentation and perform code/process reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Power BI, SAP Business Objects or other business intelligence platforms
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, Python, relational databases and data modeling/data architecture concepts
  • Ability to manage multiple deadline-based priorities
  • Strong problem-solving ability, creativity to interpret design requirements, understanding of logical process flow
  • Excellent analytical thinking, technical analysis, and data manipulation skills
  • Ability to develop and coach team members with proven ability to achieve results through collaboration and teamwork
  • Self-starter with strong decision-making skills and the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the company, clearly expressing ideas and concepts, both verbally and in writing

  • Advance level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 3+ years data or business intelligence experience required
  • 1+ years leadership experience required
  • Advanced technical proficiency developing solutions with SQL and visualization environments preferred
  • Familiarity with Workday reporting development and/or Workday People Analytics preferred
  • Working knowledge of IBM InfoSphere DataStage environment preferred
