Team Lead, Engineering - Data Reliability

We're looking for a Team Lead with people leadership and a software development/technical background based in New Zealand who will work in either our Auckland or Wellington office. 

About the role and team:

As the Team Lead - Engineering for our Database Infrastructure team, you’ll play a key role in our journey to accelerate the database platforms on which Xero runs.

You’ll lead the delivery practices for the team, ensuring that we can effectively and efficiently modernise our database infrastructure, collaborating with the Product Manager to deliver an ambitious roadmap that embraces cloud technologies to provide a highly available and super stable platform.

In addition, you’ll be a passionate leader for a team of engineers to help them grow their skills and careers; you’ll be an advocate for great engineering practices and healthy operational rhythms in the team; and you’ll be part of Data Reliability Engineering’s wider engineering leadership group!

What you'll do:

• Ensure your team’s delivery pipeline is flowing at a predictable and sustainable pace, raising and addressing blockers as appropriate
• Ensure accurate, fit for purpose and sustainable delivery systems exist in your team. You'll be responsible for your team providing informed estimates, delivery forecasting, capacity planning, and associated reporting
• Understand and advocate the Xero Engineering Standards. Working as part of a leadership group, you’ll facilitate an engineering approach that is compliant to these standards and fosters sustainably excellent engineering
• Coach and enable your team toward effective and efficient delivery
