Team Lead, Reliability Engineering
Job Description
The Team Lead, Reliability Engineering role is responsible for leading, managing and executing the operational Reliability Engineering functions supporting the AES Clean Energy (CE) portfolio. The AES CE portfolio has over 500 sites and 4,800 MW of renewable assets in operation. This Reliability Engineering team currently includes 3 reliability engineers and is growing.
Lead the Reliability Engineering team:
- Manages team to support portfolio reliability via failure analysis of equipment and subcomponents
- Develops tools and processes to further monitor fleet/equipment health and perform in-depth reliability investigations
- Leads and manages root cause analysis initiatives on technical challenges
- Recommends and enacts improvements to equipment operating parameters (optimization)
- Informs fleet-wide efforts to identify spare parts strategy; provides lifecycle cost modeling to inform equipment reserves
- Supports coordination with major equipment OEMs (inverters, batteries, etc)
- Facilitates major repairs including repowering and retrofits
- Defines best practices for preventative and predictive maintenance
- Collaborates with Field Services, Operations and Engineering teams to improve system, site or portfolio reliability
- Meets regularly with O&M leadership to establish priorities and inform strategy
- Develops KPIs to ensure the operating portfolio is operating reliably
The Team Lead, Reliability Engineering will support the engineering needs of the Operations & Maintenance organization by facilitating technical discussions and developing engineering solutions to operational needs. The role will inform the broader CE organization on technical trends in equipment reliability including regional challenges. This role will supplement the insights of portfolio-level performance with equipment-level reliability to provide a wholistic view of operational engineering challenges for prioritization and execution by the broader O&M organization.
The role will also identify and foster opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation. The role will lead the development of processes and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of operational workflows and touchpoints between the O&M and Engineering organizations. The role will lead discussions to "Close the loop" between Operations and Engineering by recording and communicating issues that can be mitigated through better design or equipment selection. The role will provide actionable insights on the operational reliability of equipment selection to inform future projects.
The Reliability Engineering team supports a larger operations organization and serves as the subject matter expertise for technical and engineering matters related to the reliable and available operation of photovoltaic plants and grid-scale battery storage systems. Excellent communication, task management and planning skills needed, in addition to technical breadth. The team focuses on the mechanical and electrical operation of photovoltaics, batteries, and related equipment/components.
The position is located in Louisville, CO, or Salt Lake City, UT or Dayton, OH or Remote and may include up to 10-15% travel to project locations and partner offices.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering or equivalent technical field
- 5 years of professional experience in Operations, Engineering or Project Management - PV solar and BESS experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of industry trends in reliability metrics, tools, and processes
- Proficiency with reading and understanding equipment/facility schematics
- Ability to work effectively with Microsoft software programs, including but not limited to Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend equipment/facility schematics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High degree of commitment to a quality safety culture and an incident-free work environment
- Willingness to travel within the U.S. to support company's portfolio of PV solar/BESS assets

"Plus" Qualifications
- PE qualifications, or on track to become qualified
- Master's degree in Engineering or Business
- Experience with PV and Battery Energy Storage System design and interconnection
- Professional experience in engineering with focus on measuring and maintaining system reliability
- Experience with Data Acquisition and SCADA systems
- Spanish language skills

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $115,000 and $140,250/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
