Job Description

Tulip, the leader in frontline operations, is helping companies around the world equip their workforce with connected apps, leading to higher quality work, improved efficiency, and end-to-end traceability across operations. Companies of all sizes and across industries have implemented composable solutions with Tulip’s cloud-native, no-code platform to solve some of the most pressing challenges in operations: error-proofing processes and boosting productivity, capturing and analyzing real-time data, and continuous improvement.

A spinoff out of MIT, Tulip is headquartered in Somerville, MA, with offices in Germany and Hungary. Focused on composable, human-centric solutions for industrial environments, Tulip is disrupting the MES category and has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Global Innovator. Tulip has also been named one of Energage’s Top Workplaces USA and one of Built In Boston’s “Best Places to Work” and “Best Midsize Places to Work” for 2023.

The TEC (Tulip Experience Center) - our brand-new showroom space in our Assembly Square HQ - is where we show off the latest and greatest Tulip features and devices to customers, clients, investors, and more. Every part of the TEC is teeming with real assembly, monitoring, and production stations - after all, the only way to showcase a Front Line Operations Platform is by building the Front Line!

The TEC Intern or Co-op will be working at the heart of this. Every day, you'll be tasked with not only talking the talk - coming up with the best ways to showcase Tulip's most bleeding-edge features and devices - but walking the walk - designing assemblies, engineering new equipment and apps, and demonstrating it all to visitors from around the world. You'll have a hand in working with and creating processes for cutting-edge equipment from across the discrete manufacturing and Life Sciences industries.

This position is currently hiring for 4-6 months during the period of April to December 2023. Only applications within the period will be considered.

This position requires demonstrated hardware and electronics experience. Applications with software-only experience will be rejected.

About You:

  • You're excited about the cutting edge of manufacturing methods and technologies.
  • You're curious about how hardware devices interact through software.
  • You're hands-on, interested in hands-on applications to solve real issues.
  • You're ready to work solo, but not afraid to go to your coworkers (or - let's be real - Google) for help.
  • You want to work in a fast-paced, growing startup on a small team.

What skills do I need?

  • Applicants must have demonstrated experience with electronics, hardware/software integration, or hardware assembly.
  • At least one co-op, internship, or work experience has already been completed.
  • Able to work 40hrs a week in our (brand new!) Assembly Square office.
    • We're dog friendly! Our Chief Barketing Officer can provide more details.
    • Easily accessible via the Orange Line.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently carry out and present projects to the team and company.

Additional Helpful (but not required) Areas of Interest:

  • Electrical engineering, particularly:
    • Electronics design, IoT
    • Device connectivity, sensor applications
  • Coding, particularly:
    • on small electronics (e.g. Raspberry Pi, Arduino)
    • in Node-RED, JS/Node.JS, or Python
    • in SQL, data analytics and presentation
  • CAD (2D or 3D)
  • Product engineering, User experience testing and survey

What Can I Work On?

  • Designing, building, and presenting Tulip demos and workstations for the TEC
  • Sourcing, procuring, and maintaining new large-scale tools or equipment
  • Working closely between Hardware and Product to address customer issues and identify new fixes & features
  • Crafting brand-new experiences and applications for Tulip trade show installations worldwide
  • Testing and producing new Knowledge Base articles and Community posts for existing Tulip applications
  • Scripting and producing new creative content (visual, audio, etc) to spread the Tulip brand

Key Collaborators:

  • Hardware Group (Electrical, Firmware, and Mechanical engineering)
  • Product Management
  • Library and Support teams
