This position is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of any assumed Medical, Disability Income or Group Long Term products and/or any additional lines of business for assigned client companies. With both ad hoc data analysis tools and Swiss Re reinsurance administration systems the incumbent performs reasonableness checks for both premium and policy data quality and manages cash allocations and disbursements. Where applicable, they are responsible for booking policy level data for use by Actuarial Management (AM), Inforce Management (IFM) and Finance for purposes of regulatory & financial reporting along with managing the overall in force block of business. Incumbent creates and maintains policy master information, where applicable, and assures treaty compliance on all records and reports, including inputs to the management of Swiss Re's retention. Incumbent will have contact with clients and will work with other departments to assist in servicing client accounts. Incumbents at this level may get some exposure to working with the more complex and high-profile accounts. Incumbent must be able to work within tight deadlines to meet cash close dates along with recency and key performance indicator targets.
Essential Responsibilities
- Process client's files, electronic or otherwise, using any of Swiss Re's administration systems, including Message Management system or comparable Swiss Re system. Analyze output to resolve all exceptions. Work with stakeholders like Data Management (DM), Actuarial Management, and Quality Assurance (QA), as needed, to identify and suggest needed changes to client's systems and data reported on client's files and/or Paper Bulk statements. Ensure the quality of financial and policy data contained in Swiss Re systems for use by all stakeholders. 50%
- Accountable for thorough reconciliation and analysis of client's policy and financial data files ensuring, where applicable, Swiss Re's segmentation is in alignment with the client's file. Timely escalates material financial, policy volume/risk variances, or noticeable deviations to anticipated trends to QA, management, and appropriate stakeholders. Often requires timely interfaces with client to review and resolve issues. 20%
- Maintains strong relationships with external clients. 10%
- Reviews reported claims to determine whether Swiss Re is on the risk for all applicable claims (examples include Medical, WOP and DI claims) and to determine that premiums are paid to a current date. Where applicable, builds records and establishes claim liability via building of claim records, under the correct treaty and pricing segment. 10%
- Assists, where appropriate, with the preparatory account deep dives and client onsite reviews. Supports client reviews through timely premium validation investigations. Demonstrates the ability to rapidly gain an understanding of the client's systems and processes. 5%
- Accountable for premium collection and cash flow management for assigned accounts. Escalates delinquencies in accordance with business guidelines. Ensure unallocated cash remains current within predetermined targets and promptly reports all outliers to management along with supporting documentation for actions taken to date. Manage assigned retrocession billing and collection duties. 5%
Ancillary Responsibilities
- Assists other departments, including claims, underwriting, sales, actuarial, and treaty with administrative functions
- Contribute to cross-functional global projects, as needed.
- Quarterly completion of the OET providing support for aged and incomplete cash receipts and unsettled balances.
Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent experience in an Accounting/Finance related discipline; or 1-2 years related experience, in a reinsurance/ insurance environment
- General understanding of reinsurance terms and conditions; demonstrated knowledge of reinsurance types and risk transfer concepts.
- Strong math skills
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to look at problems or situations from a fresh perspective and suggest creative solutions
- Possesses a strong knowledge of computer fundamentals. Takes full advantage of computer programs and automation.
- Uses office tools to maximize productivity. (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access). Including the use of pivot tables, v-lookups, etc. Skill level should be evident from experience and past projects.
- Willing to learn new tools/applications and ability to apply knowledge to new situations.
- Proven organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple priorities within tight deadlines
- Self-motivated and willing to volunteer to assist others
- Proven interpersonal skills for working internally across departments, as well as with clients.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a professional cross functional network of colleagues
- Change adaptable. Has an open mind and explores new ideas, different approaches and applying new methods to challenge the status quo.
- After initial training period, ability to act independently. Ability to apply training to different situations.
- Detail oriented
- Effective written and oral communication skills. Conveying the information simply and clearly, anticipating and eliminating likely causes of confusion.
- Insurance and reinsurance experience/knowledge preferred.
- Take and pass two LOMA courses within the first 12 months; continual progression to obtain LOMA/ARA designation
- Incumbent must act independently within a relatively short time after basic training; however, will have higher level Technical Accountants available to assist and answer questions.
- Potential for high downstream impact due to errors such as inaccurate regulatory reporting and inaccurate level of reserves held. Financial errors may affect profit picture for a treaty, a client or for the line of business.
