About the department
Cloudflare is seeking a Technical Accounting Manager to join our Accounting team. Our team consists of experienced, motivated, and self-sufficient high performers. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail and be able to work in a fast-paced high-volume environment.
What you'll do
The Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for providing accounting guidance for complex or unusual transactions such as acquisitions/divestitures, legal transactions, impairment, investments, and other non-routine complex business transactions. Responsibilities include critically evaluating applicability of new accounting literature to Cloudflare, preparing quarterly and ad-hoc technical accounting memos, maintaining effective internal controls and ensuring accounting activities are both regulatory and U.S. GAAP compliant.

• Research authoritative literature and provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions such as acquisitions/divestitures, legal transactions, impairment, investments, including other non-routine complex business transactions
• Evaluate applicability of new accounting literature to Cloudflare and ensure accounting activities are both regulatory and U.S. GAAP compliant
• Perform quarterly review of goodwill and intangible impairment including year-end test for impairment
• Manage actuarial valuation of pensions and ensure U.S. GAAP compliance in accordance with ASC 715-30
• Review and monitor SAB99 analysis to evaluate errors in financial statements using both the "iron curtain" method and "rollover" method
• Review accounting conventions to ensure Cloudflare's non-GAAP policies would not have a significant effect to any one period on a quantitative basis
• Prepare segment analysis to ensure compliance with requirements regarding consistency between internal and external reporting of reportable operating segments
• Prepare/review timely, high quality technical accounting memos on all key technical accounting matters for submission to the independent auditor
• Manage and act as liaison in Company-wide initiatives and cross-functional projects that directly impact accounting area to ensure U.S. GAAP compliance. Examples include implementation of new accounting policies, due diligence and PPA entries on acquisitions (ASC 805) and other significant business transactions such as divestitures, Company spin-offs, restructuring, debt offerings, complex capitalization projects, and other significant complex transactions
• Assist external reporting team with complex regulatory reporting matters.
• Providing detail support to the outside auditors and other consultants
• Manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines with strong attention to detail and accuracy

Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 1+ years in a role focused on technical accounting
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field and equivalent work experience. CPA is required
• Exceptional communication skills, including an ability to listen to the needs of the business, research and comprehend complex matters, articulate issues in a clear and simplified manner, and present findings and recommendations in both oral and written presentations
• Ability to manage multiple deliverables and work well under pressure
• Proactive and creative approach, strong analytical skills and ability to create and maintain a balanced, positive work environment
• Ability to lead, organize, and manage projects beginning to end that require coordinated efforts across multiple functions (e.g., Accounting, Tax, FP&A, Treasury, Legal, Operations)
• Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Detail oriented: able to work with large volumes of data with speed and accuracy. Ability to self-check work.
• Track record of working independently with limited required direction and guidance on simultaneous projects and teams
• Ability to respond to internal requests for support and assistance in a prompt and professional manner
• Ability to work in a confidential manner due to access to information of a sensitive nature
• Strong time management, problem-solving, technical, and analytical skills
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Prior experience working in an internet/ecommerce company
    • Prior experience working in NetSuite
    • Public accounting experience
    • Prior experience with Google Apps

Compensation
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.

• For Colorado-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $128,000 - $156,000.
• For New York City-based and California (excluding Bay Area) and Washington hires: Estimated annual salary of $144,000 - $176,000.
• For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $151,000-185,000
