Technical Accounting Manager

Position Description

The Manager of Technical Accounting will anticipate what’s next, stay curious and make a difference. Our fast paced, innovative and pre-IPO culture allows for the Technical Accounting Manager to review and analyze a wide array of complex accounting transactions. Specifically, this role is responsible for reviewing transactions and processes related to business combinations, revenue, leases, capital accounting, pensions, debt, derivatives, equity compensation, impairment analysis, nonmonetary exchanges and other unusual transactions. On a daily basis the Technical Accounting Manager will interact with accounting, operations, finance, corporate development, investor relations, and sales to help Zayo solve our most critical accounting questions. This role also partners closely with financial reporting and the external audit team in the review and preparation of our financial statements as well as with an external valuation firm on valuation of acquired assets and liabilities. This role serves as a leader and subject matter expert by colleagues across Zayo.

Responsibilities

• Research and arrive at well-reasoned conclusions on technical accounting issues and discuss and present conclusions to executive and senior management

• Advise internal business partners on the accounting implications of various types of transactions

• Prepare accounting memos supporting complex transactions

• Establish, document, and educate others on Zayo-wide accounting policies

• Support cross-functional implementation of new accounting policies, serving as the accounting subject matter expert

• Support the external audit by discussing conclusions of key accounting issues with the external audit firm

• Participate in close-related accounting reviews and analyses

• Assist with the external quarterly review and annual audit process, including preparation of various audit support requests and coordination of obtaining support requests from the segment controllers and accountants

• Assist with offerings for debt or equity offerings as needed

• Assist in initiating, implementing and executing process improvements and controls

• Participate in other projects as required

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of public accounting experience or combination public accounting and industry experience with SEC reporting experience;

• Accounting advisory experience at a public accounting firm a plus

• Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree in Accounting;

• CPA required;

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting and filing requirements;

• Experience in the telecommunications industry a plus;

• Technical accounting skills and ability to research various accounting issues;

• Knowledge of Oracle, Onestream, Merrill Bridge, or Salesforce, a plus;

• Advanced system skills including MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;

• Strong analytical and organizational skills;

• Attention to detail and highly effective planning, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills;

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to work effectively across the Company’s various business units and locations;

• Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and exercise judgment in fast paced and changing environment;

• Ability to effectively set priorities, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and produce quality work while dealing with interruptions.

Base pay range: $80,100-$117,480, commensurate with experience.
