The payments team plays a critical role in this mission by building services and experiences that enable Upwork clients and freelancers to transact on our platform with convenience.
As a Technical Architect at Upwork, you will work at the intersection of Product, Engineering, and Business Teams to define next generation Payments platform with a focus on scale and performance. The Technical Architect's responsibilities include building the software design for complex highly scaled systems and ensuring it meets the quality standards of the company. You should also be able to technically mentor, guide, and train other engineers.
Your Responsibilities:

• Build the next-generation architecture and design for large-scale, multi-tier systems, applications, and services at Upwork.
• Understand business requirements from internal/external and technical/non-technical stakeholders. Convey these business requirements into technical specifications and design to build scalable, faster technical solutions and systems.
• Perform as a technical lead throughout the software development life cycle including requirement understanding, analysis, scoping, design, implementation, and testing.
• As a Technical Architect, you would drive, shape, and influence the definition and vision of the Upwork payments platform and other connected systems.
• Lead multiple technical cross-functional initiatives to communicate, educate, and provide technical direction and ensure alignment between technical strategy, execution, and company priorities

What it takes to catch our eye:

• Hands-on experience in building large highly complex cross-functional systems and architecture solutions for a marketplace business model.
• Proven experience in software development methodology and building complex web systems.
• Ability to lead multiple technical programs in defining system design and solutions in a fast pace highly ambiguous environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage different partners within the business and technology teams.

For all remote roles and roles based in California/Washington: The annual base salary for this position ranges from $131,000.00 - $235,000.00. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long-term equity incentive program.
