Technical Assistant - Miller Outdoor Theatre

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is proficient in various traits like carpentry, audio, lights, and props. This position will support the House Crew in all operations and provide technical assistance in support of professional and non-professional groups using Miller Outdoor Theatre.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist technical staff during all load ins, load outs, technical rehearsal, and performance 
• Run power, cables and microphones
• Build stage risers
• Organize and maintain equipment and materials as required
• Assist staff to ensure events run smoothly
• Other duties and special projects as designated

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3 years of experience concert arena, theater, or performing arts venue, required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  

• Computer knowledge, with ability to use MS Word and Excel
• Basic math skills
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner both written and verbal
• Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of duties
• Generalized knowledge of Theatrical and AV Systems (Lighting, Audio, Video, and Rigging)
• Experience in live event production, particularly with a staging and theatrical background, required
• Familiarity working with productions schedule and with crew members from different disciplines

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) on a highly frequent basis, and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods.
• Routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture and unpleasant air conditions; may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and chemical substances such as cleaning solutions
• Must be able to work at heights in excess of 80’
