Technical Designer, Women's Sweaters

Overview

Technical Designer for Women’s Sweaters takes direction/works with Director to execute development and fit comments for assigned product commodity. Works collaboratively with other Technical Design team members, Design Merchandising, and Production Partners to ensure that CM standards are achieved and upheld. Communicates daily with oversees partners. 

Responsibilities

• Create an accurate detailed specification package following design direction for each style
• Manages the sample development process and is responsible for maintaining them through fit approval
• Evaluate the fit of each sample identifying fit problems and recommending appropriate solutions
• Captures team feedback during fittings and is responsible for the execution of the fit comments accordingly. (In the absence of the Director and Sr. Technical Designer, the Technical Designer is responsible for conducting the fittings and processing the fit comments accordingly)
• Follows up on e-mails from the overseas office regarding comments on fit.
• Regularly review base size specifications, grade rules, and figure types to ensure size range meets company objectives
• Troubleshoot and anticipate possible problems in production offering appropriate solutions
• Ongoing evaluation of quality and workmanship to ensure design direction is correctly interpreted and quality standards are consistently met
• Maintain and update product information, filing systems, computer systems, catalogues, library, and technical work areas
• Attends department meetings, seasonal CFT detail meetings, and weekly CFT meetings.
• Follows the development and production cycle/timelines to ensure all technical deadlines are achieved
• Manages junior technical team member
• Builds collaborative relationships with internal clients and overseas offices.
• Interfaces professionally and works effectively in group settings.

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study
• 5-7 years of experience in Technical Design, Minimum 3 years of experience in Sweaters
• Strong Knowledge of sweater construction, finishes, and techniques
• Knowledge of construction standards and manufacturing methods and measurements •
• Knowledge of pattern making, draping, garment construction, grading, and factory production
• Ability to interpret and execute designs from a sketch to a specification
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and divisions supporting a team environment
• Detail Oriented
• Excellent time management/project skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
• Computer proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of PLM and/or Web PDM
• Ability to travel to local/overseas factories, stores, offices
• Ability to lift sample bins weighing up to 20lbs
