Job Description

A Technical Director (TD) at productionglue leads the technical production team, manages client relationships, and oversees the planning & execution of events from a technical perspective. This individual provides excellent customer service, understanding the importance of forging relationships with clients & production partners alike to successfully spearhead a project from beginning to end. The TD is ultimately responsible for the “how & why” of all technical operations, including - scenic, staging, audio, video, lighting, rigging, labor, and 3D design.

Location: Must be US based. NYC or Tristate area preferred, hybrid work environment, office located in NYC. 

Travel Requirements: Around 20% of the time, domestic. International possible. (site visits & onsite time- depending on project assignments.)

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all technical components of a production are developed & executed flawlessly in keeping with the client’s vision, budget requirements, timeline, and safety standards  
  • Manage & mentor their team – leading by example, clearly setting expectations, communicating processes, setting goals for improvement, and offering support as necessary  
  • Play a key role in projects from conception through pre-production, budgeting, onsite execution, and post-production
  • Draft site plans, ground plans, and other layouts as required
  • Manage client relationships – establishing trust & confidence in the technical team’s capabilities
  • Manage budgets & profit margins for assigned productions
  • Determine crew calls & assignments based on production & facility requirements
  • Comfortable working in an office setting, as well as from more rigorous & non-traditional onsite environments
  • Have excellent interpersonal & communication skills, both verbal & written.  They’re comfortable communicating with staff of all experience levels, from interns to senior leadership
  • Have outstanding organizational skills & great attention to detail
  • Take initiative, act responsively, and demonstrate a sense of urgency
  • Comfortable multi-tasking & working graciously in a fast-paced environment
  • Work with discretion, diplomacy, and tact across a multitude of work settings, including financial & government agencies
  • Anticipate & solve problems before they arise – providing viable & cost-effective solutions
  • Positively impacts others & earns the respect of their peers & management

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years of live event, entertainment, theater, touring concert and/or production experience in scenic or exhibit fabrication
  • Functional competencies in theatrical staging & rigging, sound reinforcement, production lighting, and audio & video production
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Experience working with & directing union & non-union stagehands
  • Computer skills: Macintosh OS or Windows platform using Microsoft Office

Salary Range: $95,000-$115,000 annual salary, DOE
