This Director position will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of our green hydrogen development projects in the US. This role will initially report to the Head of the US Green Hydrogen business, but as the business grows over time, may transition to a Vice President reporting line. The role can be located in any AES office in the U.S. (Salt Lake City, UT; Louisville, CO; Houston, TX; Arlington, VA).

Lead delivery of technical site and environmental studies, surveys and diligence reports. Provide financial model inputs and assumptions with respect to hydrogen facility capital expenditures and operating costs.
  • Develop a suite of tools and resources that help the business assess, price, and optimize early stage hydrogen projects quickly and efficiently.
  • Build and lead a team of engineers with technical expertise and capabilities in green hydrogen.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal procurement, supply chain, project finance, and construction management teams for projects that are ready to move into construction. Develop relationships and contracting mechanisms with important suppliers, including key OEMs, EPC providers, technical consultants, engineering firms, and others.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 15-20 years of technical project development experience in hydrogen, electrolysis, thermal power, wind, solar, storage, or related field. Track record of supporting infrastructure projects that have successfully advanced though financing, construction, and operations.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and capacity to learn quickly about a new, high growth sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the demands of multiple projects and work collaboratively on a cross functional team with origination, development, commercial, legal, finance, engineering, construction, and outside consultants, landowners, customers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-20% on average but more as required by projects.
  • Leadership capabilities and "founders mentality" to successfully launch a new business.
  • Exemplifies a culture of safety, trust, inclusiveness, highest standards, and "all together"
  • "Player/Coach mentality". Ability to build, inspire, and lead a team to success; but also willingness and capability to roll up your sleeves, get deep into the details, and do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Leadership presence to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
