The Platform Programs Technical Director is the engineering technical leader for new product development activities involving platforming introduction. The Platform Programs Technical Director provides planning, engineering leadership, and technical project management oversight to business units and product lines as they adopt platforming and associated solutions. The Platform Programs Technical Director facilitates and leads new product development teams through all phases of product life-cycle management, mentoring and establishing platforming, technical leadership and systems engineering practices to enable successful regional platformed product deliveries and continued growth and contribution to wider global platforming efforts. The Platform Programs Technical Director influences and facilitates regional product management and business leaders on value proposition and adoption of platforming in alignment with overall global asset proliferation and governance. The Platform Programs Technical Director interfaces with all levels of engineering, program management, and product management to ensure program, platform, customer and company commitments are being met; this individual is the principal conduit to technical product development leadership and risk management for the business on regional and global platformed product solutions.

Job Duties include:

  • Provide/Support/Monitor overall high level and detailed technical leadership for multiple product development teams simultaneously and globally, through all phases of product development and sustainment, on programs which utilize centrally managed subsystems and components to ensure successful product, business, and platforming goals are obtained
  • Advise regional engineering leaders, program managers, and product leadership on local product development technical feasibility, risk, capability and capacity needs, and integration opportunities and challenges toward platform engineering strategies
  • Establish/Support regional engineering team methods incorporation and adoption of platform subsystem integration and/or development and maintenance of subassemblies to both utilize and then contribute to wider global platforming efforts
  • Initiate/Conduct/Support critical project development activities including overall product requirement definition, high level product architecture development, system and subsystem integration, and verification and validation activities spanning electrical, firmware, software, and mechanical reusable design components and assemblies
  • Initiate/Conduct/Support technical risk management efforts on product solutions incorporating platform subassemblies and solutions
  • Initiate/Support/Assess regional and global platforming needs, value proposition, and product roadmap incorporation of platform subassemblies and solutions usage
  • Define/Support/Assess technical and business proposals, leading and/or facilitating cost and resource estimations for new product and/or platform subassemblies and solutions development efforts

Knowledge & Work Experience:

  • Significant demonstrated experience with formal systems engineering processes
  • Significant demonstrated experience in systems engineering leadership and technical project leadership/management, preferably involving electro-mechanical products
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Effective team and project management skills
  • Ability to lead and mentor other leaders through highly complex problem-solving activities as necessary
  • Prior experience with consumer products or other industry regulatory certification activities such as FCC, UL, CE desired
  • Prior experience leading and/or managing global teams desired
  • Prior experience with platforming/product line engineering desired

Education & Minimum Years of Experience:

  • BS in Engineering
  • At least 15 years relevant experience
  • Seeking candidates eligible for employment in local country/region
  • Percentage of travel: 25%
