Position Summary

Caribou Thunder is seeking a skilled Technical Editor and Writer to oversee the preparation of work instruction packages, illustrative materials, and technical documentation for various projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with product developers, utilize technical specifications and engineering drawings, and gather information from various sources to produce accurate and high-quality technical content. This role requires a strong understanding of space flight components and manufacturing processes, as well as the ability to multitask and identify process improvements.

Complete Description

As a Technical Editor and Writer, you will play a vital role in the creation and maintenance of work instruction packages, illustrative materials, and technical documentation. You will acquire subject knowledge through interviews with product developers, observation of production methods, and reference to various technical resources such as technical specifications, engineering drawings, parts lists, wiring diagrams, CAD models, and trade journals. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation.

• Oversee the preparation of work instruction packages, illustrative materials, and technical documentation.
• Interview product developers and observe production methods to acquire subject knowledge.
• Refer to technical specifications, engineering drawings or illustrations, parts lists, wiring diagrams or wire lists, CAD models, trade journals, etc., to gather necessary information.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy and completeness of technical content.
• Support multiple projects and effectively multitask.
• Recognize and reduce or eliminate non-value operations.
• Interact with I&T Planners daily.
• Apply lean principles for process improvements when applicable.
• Proactively identify issues, escalate them to the appropriate channels, and propose solutions for review by engineering.
• Demonstrate competency in desktop and publishing applications, including knowledge of Air Force Technical Orders, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat Suite.
• Perform proofreading and editing tasks to ensure the accuracy and clarity of technical documentation.
• Conduct research to gather data and interpret engineering documentation, including wiring diagrams and schematics.
• Conduct customer reviews and incorporate review comments to improve the quality of technical content.

Minimum Requirements

• Strong knowledge of handling delicate space flight components.
• Good working knowledge of manufacturing processes applicable to the manufacture of space flight hardware or equivalent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in technical writing.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Proficiency in using desktop and publishing applications.
• Familiarity with proofreading and editing techniques.
• Ability to interpret engineering documentation, including wiring diagrams and schematics.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience with Military Standards.
• Military background or experience documenting Radar or targeting systems.
• Proficiency in Adobe FrameMaker.
